From reading on here I understood that a quick way to tell a late mk4 against mk5 was that the sat nav screen had two circular dials on the mk4 and none on a mk5, however have seen a 2l with one dial on the left of screen advertised as 193 bhp could this be right?

193 should be gen 5, motor is the same but electric motor is more powerful

Gen5 hybrids has larger fully digital screen for the dashboard instruments and larger infotainment screen.
If you in doubt about a particular car you can share the pictures and we can confirm.

Checked pictures again screen looks smaller and rev counter on left in binnacle in a curved arc, so looks to me like gen 4

When I was looking for a gen 5 1.8 there were loads about, even at main dealers, that were showing as gen 5 cars with the higher horsepower but were actually gen 4’s when I checked in more detail.

the infotainment screen is what I used to check quickly when looking at photos of the cars. Without the two dials was a gen 5 so a quick way. Many were listed with the wrong horsepower.

Agreed the confusion being the one advertised has one dial on left for volume and advertised as 193bhp, how can they get this wrong with their own cars

Perhaps on purpose to fool uninformed people and sell for more money or might be as a software glitch, late registered cars to be passed as gen 5.

It is debatable that gen 5 is actually gen 4.1 or something like that because it is still very similar. The logic and Battery pack are probably the main difference. I am not sure if the 1.8L still use the same MG2 but the 2.0L has larger capacity Li-battery than the older NiMh.

Tony is right, the dashboard LCD panel is gen 5 signature. The infotainment can be the same as 2022 model (gen4)

Toyota also changes Hybrid Badge with HEV😜

the front is also very slightly different (but obvious when you are aware)

My gen5 still has the old style hybrid Badge on the tailgate.

it might just be the new 24 models that have HEV badges.

My MY24 delivered in March has new HEV badge

Ah right, 2024 is when Toyota followed Honda using HEV instead hybrid Badge

I love how Toyota do changes, rarely radicals when things are already good. Gen4 is almost perfect with no known flaws besides tiny 12V Battery

No more EGR valve and Intake manifolds cleaning 70k miles Maintenance, revised head gaskets in 1.8L, minimal oil consumption with good maintenance (better piston rings), ADAS gen 2 standard and radar cruise standard.

My Corolla was delivered at the end of January 2024 and still has the ‘Hybrid’ Badge. I don’t have the speed alert bongs either, so it was probably one of the final MY23 cars.

I have a 24 plate Touring Sports, with the larger infortisnment screen, HEV badges in the rear etc but when I checked the vehicle using an app, it stated it was the 122hp version.

is this an error with the app? And have I actually purchased the updated more powerful version (1.8)?

@Benn1991 which app do you use for checking your vehicule ? No doubt you have gen5 140hp version.

It must be an error with the app. Your 24 plate car will definitely be a fifth generation hybrid with the 140hp 1.8 litre engine.

I was hoping this may be the case.

Thought hybrid5 was the 2.0 litre engine with the 2.5 transaxle as per the new prius plugin.
and 1.8 gen4
