Hi Everyone,

The rear winder defroster grid on my Aygo (2008 mk1 model)  has given up the ghost. Fiddling with rear windows repair paint has not worked, so it looks like a tailgate replacement is the only way forward.

I've seen a couple on eBay that visually appear similar in shape to mine, the only difference is that one has the emblem "Platinum" and the other has "Blue" on it. My tailgate does not have any emblem.

Is it safe to assume that all tailgates are compatible across the 2005-2014 range?

the badges are just VHB taped to the glass

have you checked it's not electrical and it's not the coiled cable, they don't usually fail unless the tab on the glass becomes unbonded

I did get my mechanic to have a look and his diagnosis after checking with his multimeter is that the tailgate needed replacement. The bottom part of the grid works to a point but not the top. Happy to go with replacing the tailgate if necessary. I've fallen in love with the little car. I previously owned 3 and 4 litre much larger cars. I was using it as a stopgap but it has grown on me.

Some models only have one connector for the defroster and some have two. Make sure you're getting the right replacement.
