Not as traumatic as it sounds 🫣 After owning the 2022 Corolla Design h/b for 3 months I have traded it for a 2023 Corolla touring in icon trim. We traded a VW Golf estate for the Corolla h/b, I favoured the touring then but my better half convinced me we didn't need a ' big car ' and I agreed at that time. We both now agree that purchase was a mistake, we miss the carrying capacity and ' big car ' feel. Expensive error but fortunately the funds were available to ' upgrade'. Immediately noticed the difference in  the later gen5 ? version. The extra power in the 138bhp engine is welcome, not for ' foot  down ' driving but progress seems 'smoother' Certainly the car rides better on the 16" wheels and Continental 205/55 tyres than the  17" wheels and Falken tyres of the h/b. Deal was done at local Stoneacre Toyota dealer and I was pleasantly surprised at the trade-in price for the Corolla h/b. Happy motoring, just don't look at the bank account 🤪

I have made the same mistake...bought a hatchback when i really needed a touring...only 2 of us at the moment but having lost our dog last year a pup will be coming along in the next 12 months.

I also like travelling around europe and thought a hatback would be big enough but my partner likes to bring the house contents with her.

Nice one Roy, the extra  rear legroom and boot space in the estate are massive benefits, indeed. I also happen to think it looks better, in my completely-unbiased opinion! 😇

Yes Red, I really like the estate looks. The 17" wheels on the h/b design did look great but I'm happy  to  give them up for a better ride.

Well done.
The estate version is really more practical and more comfortable one.
What about road noise, which one wins here , hatchback on 17” or estate on 16”?

I only had test driven an excel on 18” Falkens and even though the car felt very well insulated inside the rear tyre roar was so intrusive that made me change my view on newer Toyota models. Tested an Aygo X and this was quieter with equal tyre roar between front and rear.

Bit early to make a decision on road noise Tony, I have only had a 30 min test drive, (don't get the car until thursday coming) I tend to think estates are usually a little noisier inside than the corresponding saloon, maybe the large cargo area has a sort of ' boom box ' effect ? either way I will accept a little more road noise for a more comfortable ride over bad road surfaces (which we seem to have more than our fair share)

P.S This car has come from Toyota, reg Jun 23 and has only done 1440 miles ! I did stress the point to the sales person that the age and mileage makes me wonder about the condition of the 12v Battery ? He assured me he would get it checked, and I assured him if it didn't hold a charge sufficiently I would be back banging on the 'warranty door' 😀

Thank you for coming  back to me.
Yeah, it make sense estate to be slightly noisier and what you are saying about cargo area.
I will wait for more thoughts after you have the car.
