Apple Carplay voice messaging glitchy

Hi everyone,

I recently (2 weeks ago), got a 2024 PHEV Rav-4 (my 3rd Rav) and all is lovely except that I cant send messages (either SMS or Whatsapp) as Carplay glitches out when it asks me what I want to say. It stops halfway through asking me what I want to say, and then start playing random garbled lines from other commands until I cancel.

I suspect its a teething problem to do with operating systems or apps needing to be updated. The phone has ios 18 and the car deosnt seem to need updating. the fact it happens with both types of message means its probably not a whatsapp issue.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, ios 18.1 released today, fixes this. Its to do with “apple inteligence” getting in the way, pre release to the uk.

Just downloaded and installed iOS 18.1 OK.

If you set the phone and siri language to English US you will see the Apple intelligence interface. Otherwise its still the spinning ball until 18.2 is released in December. 
siri speaking language is independent of the phone language so you can mix it up if you wish.
