Hi, I had this message appear on my 2018 PHV Prius today. I pretty certain it's due to how a friend connected / disconnected the jump leads from the batteries when he helped me jump start the car due to a low 12v Battery (which I've had to do a couple of times over the years with no issues)

Everything works OK as far as I can see, both when running on EV power and ICE, apart from the message displayed.

Anyone any ideas to what it might be or what I can try to reset this, or am I going to have to visit a dealer?

I do have an OBD code reader I bought online for my last car, but I've never tried connecting it to my Toyota, as I've never needed to, and unsure if it'll work as although it's a newer bluetooth type that connects to an app, it was purchased before EV's or hybrids were really a thing!! Can anyone tell me where the socket for these are in case it is only a matter of resetting the error message like I used to have to on my last car after sensors etc were replaced?

Thanks in advance

It should be to the right of your right knee just under the dashboard...

Thanks. Is there any kind of cover that needs removing to access it?  Do you know if it's just a case of resetting the error message?

Not sure if there is a cover on the Prius but there isn't on my Yaris so I wouldn't expect one on yours.

It should be just a case of checking for errors and then resetting them.

No cover on the Prius , but you do need to lay on your back to locate it

Found the ODB port by feeling underneath. So thanks for advice regarding that.

Strangely, after charging my car the fault message has now reset just via the charging!!!

I'm still curious whether my older style OBD reader will work. Is there any possibility of causing problems if I attempt to plug it in?

I'm also now concerned why my 12v Battery is being drained, but I'll start a new thread for that I guess.

Thanks everyone

Its more likely that your 12v is old and fading naturally rather than a drain on a 2018. As long as its an odb2 reader it should be fine. Note though, it only has limited interaction (by design, thanks MrT) and what you can do with it will depend on the software you use.

Even though it's only 6 years old?

Typical of my luck, it's a 5 year warranty in the Battery. Do Toyota still extend the warranty for another 12 months after a main dealer service? And does the extension still cover the Battery

The extra warranty is on the hybrid Battery. The 12v is a “consumable item” and yes quite possible at 6 years

Are you sure it's only on the hybrid Battery? I know I downloaded the T&Cs when I first bought it and pretty sure back then nearly everything covered under the original warranty was extended after a dealership service? Though I'd have to dig it out of an old PC and re read it again after 3 years.

I just wasn't sure if the scheme was still in operation.

yes but there are terms & conditions (as with most things) www.toyota.co.uk/owners/toyota-warranty

12v Battery usually only gets warranted for a year because it's considered consumable. Average lifespan is 5-10 years but it varies wildly. The one in my Fiesta lasted maybe 3 years while the one in my first diesel Yaris was at least 10 years old and was still working when I sold it!

It definitely isnt covered by the Relax warranty!

There are also many more items that aren’t covered by the relax warranty, like headlights for example and if any of these goes bad it’s ultra expensive to replace.

Yeah that one is a bit of a nasty omission, as it wouldn't be covered anyway if it was physically damaged, but as it's a sealed unit and there's no bulb or anything I feel it should be covered if it just stops working on its own, as it isn't a consumable part!!

As you say those things are NOT cheap to replace...! :fear:

Low 12V Battery or loose 12v Battery can cause C1241 code that often confused with brake system error.  I got this issue once and failed TÜV/MOT test although there is no check engine light.

I was angry because they failed it for a pending code. The CEL is not even on. the guy failed the car before me too. it was a new TÜV shop.  So, I pulled my Veepeak OBD2 and used Carista App to reset it and asked TÜV to check it again.  It passed but i need to pay 17€ fee.
