engine upgrade

Hi all,

My engine packed up, appears to be crankshaft bearing but haven't dug the engine out yet.

I've put a lot of time and effort into this car already (fallacy of sunk costs maybe) but I want to keep it going if I can. Debating an engine rebuild, which I've never done before but I've got some time and space to work on it and various expects willing to pitch in as needed.

My question is though, I've always found the car pretty underpowered. Is there anything I can do which would give it a bit extra since I'm going to be taking the engine to bits anyway?

Alternatively are there any known viable engine swaps (diesel) I can do for a 1cd-ftv? Cheers!
