Collecting my Corolla Touring tomorrow. Just setting up My Toyota app.

I guess ' Standard Services ' are useful, however I question if I need ' Remote Services ' are they partly responsible draining the Battery

Thanks.

No issues with the Battery on mine, with all services activated. The longest I've left it is 10 days.

In the winter I use the remote start feature every day as I drive in early mornings with ice covering the car.

Not "necessary", car will still work without them. Never bothered activating them on mine. You just cant access whatever features they provide.

ISTR someone mentioning on here that the car still communicates with the server just as much whether you activate the services or not, so if  they are responsible for Battery drain they still will be regardless?!

I can see that the connected services can be useful for you. We are retired so are unlikely to find ourselves in that situation early morning.. 🙂

Imho “connected services” being only 2+years old are not mature enough to be worthwhile.
bear in mind “battery drain” “innacuracy” “just plain stupid to setup”

Try leaving it for 30 days and please report back the result…

I’m pretty sure the Battery would be flat - most modern cars only go 14 days or so without flattening the Battery

if you leave the car unlocked in a locked garage a modern car will go flat in a couple of days, whereas an old one can go 30/60 days no problem. Apparently the computers don’t shut down properly if the car isn’t locked. On an old car the alarm doesn’t arm if unlocked so it’s actually using less.

every car has the sos button built in now, that may use some power too as it’s basically a mobile phone built into the roof.

Cant say i have seen an sos button in any of the cars i have test drove. What year did that come in for every car?

as we did “in the day” why not disconnect the negative terminal on the 12v if you know you are going to leave your car for an extended period?

cant live without these

1. remote start climate control during summer/winter 10min before drive

2. by accident you left car on the street unlocked - app sends reminder and you remotely lock it

Apparently it was introduced in April 2018.

There's usually a button beneath a safety flap in the roof near the front dome light. You might miss it if you aren't looking.

Hyundai has the best idea for flat batteries with their EVs - the 12V Battery is virtual as part of the big Battery. If it ever goes flat you just push a button and another fully charged virtual 12V Battery appears as it's just software generated.

Under my roof flap is my sunglasses holder. Lol. In my 2022 Prius.
yes common in BMW and Toyota USA but not so much Toyota UK.

To settle this. Please could you list the uk cars that were type approved for ecall in 2018, thus having a mandatory fitting

it certainly is not in my 2022 Prius and it was not installed in the 2023 CHR courtesy car or the 2024 Prius I test drove last month.

Strange as my February 2022 built C-HR has it fitted - SOS button is in the roof console.

No.

Page 21 of the attached Prius Plug-in brochure lists ecall as included safety equipment:

Also shows a left hand drive model.

so only the 2024 prius plug-in type approved ? As per my request

agreed in the USA but was not evident in the UK excel test drive model.

As do a lot of car brochures whether Toyota or other manufacturer - it is cheaper to use whatever stock photos they have, whether LHD or RHD.

Also the non plug-in Prius isn't currently listed by Toyota GB as part of the UK range.

I get the “non plugin” comment and it aggravates me atm. I test drove a plugin gen5

Fine. However the location of the SOS button can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and from model to model. Sometimes the SOS button is located on the centre console.
