Yaris 2022 Android Auto connection issues OPPO RENO Phone

Hi, I'm brand new here & totally rubbish with cars ..

I picked up a 2022 Yaris (basic model) last week. I love the car as it's fun to drive & very economical but I can only listen to the radio in it so far.

I've connected my phone via bluetooth - so I can answer calls, but when I try to connect Android Auto it won't work.

Is there a separate USB for media? I can only find the one near the front, which will charge my phone but nothing else ..

Any hints or tips would be fabulous at this point.

Thanks 👍

First, welcome to the forum.

Second please have a search of the forum as this topic is discussed frequently for both Apple and Android phones and the answers are slightly different dependent on phone and head units involved.

You have not indicated the exact model of car and this is important as there are two "infotainment models" installed. One is the older model with an 8" screen with two physical knobs while the other (known as Smart Connect) has a 9" screen with no round buttons.

In both cases there is only one USB port for either connecting and charging a phone OR a usb memory stick with music on it.

The older model only supports a wired connection while the smart connect should support wireless Android Auto. However some phones/ Android versions do not work smoothly.

As suggested have a search of the topic first as this question often generates lengthy, but friendly discussions.

As @RedToyota has said, we need to know the specific model of your Yaris (i.e. Icon, Design, Excel etc)

When you say "try to connect", how are you trying to make that connection?

If you only have one USB socket and it is a Type A (larger oblong one compared to USB C) then the chances are that you will not be able to connect Android Auto wirelessly as the head unit will not be capable. You will need to use a cable and cables are variable. Some will work and some will not. It needs to be a good quality data cable and not one that only charges and nothing else.

Back when the current Yaris was launched, the Icon was the entry grade - so presumably as the OP has said he has the basic model, this is the grade they have.

Hi, sorry - yes it's an Icon model with X2 knobs on the screen

Also, thanks for your replies. I tried to find a search function & read a few pages worth of threads but couldn't find anything.

I've tried to make the connection with my phone cable & without.

When I go onto Android Auto on my phone it tells me to press & hold the "talk" button on my steering wheel - that however fails as it only takes me to the menu where I can give a command to phone someone.

I really need A/A for Maps, which at the moment I can't use.

Thanks again everyone 👍
