My partner's low mileage 2019 Yaris Excel Hybrid is intermittently interrupting our day with a series of beeps, error messages and warning lights, all appearing simultaneously, as follows:-

Headlight system malfunction. Visit your dealer
Pre-crash safety system malfunction. Visit your dealer
Check RSA. Visit your dealer

Each message is preceded by a beep and the following warning lights are also illuminated:

Master warning light (!)
Brake system warning light (red)
Brake system warning light (yellow)
ABS warning light
Slip indicator
PCS Warning light (flashing)

My dealer has said that a sensor inside a wheel hub needs replacing and is going to contact us when it is available. They have said the car is safe to drive until they can do the work but it has been over a month now and I am worried, particularly about the brake warnings as the pedal feels different while the messages are being displayed. Once the pedal feels normal again, usually after 2 or 3 days, the messages all disappear.

Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Any advice appreciated.

Does the car start? Sounds like a low voltage 12v Battery also.

If a speed sensor fail on any of the wheels will trigger all these warning ⚠️ lights and will disable regen braking and rear wheel brakes.
The brake system will only relayed on pure hydraulic power and work on the front wheels only.
You will lose ev mode too.
The engine will be constantly running and the car although will remain drivable it is not recommended to drive it, it’s not safe and it’s not meant to be used that way, this is only to get you home or to the garage for example.
If they told you the sensor needs replacement it’s gonna be the whole hub bearing. This is a common issue on many Toyota cars. Sensor failure can be as a result of water ingress or internal bearing seal failure.
Best to stop driving your car and consult owners manual. Any red warning light on dashboard means to stop.

@TonyHSD Thank you so much for your prompt and helpful reply. We are going to stop using the car until it is repaired even though the messages and error lights are not appearing at the moment. Would you know if there is any delay obtaining the replacement hub? The dealer is saying that it is still on back order after more than a month since the problem was reported. The repair is being done under warranty as the car was supplied as a Toyota Approved used car in May this year. Thanks again for your help.

Hi,

if you don’t have any warnings on dashboard at the moment then you can continue to use the car. Perhaps the problem fix itself if it’s connection related, only try to avoid driving it for long when you have warnings on dashboard and when the brakes feel strange .
About the wheel hub I can’t say nothing. It should not take so long , usually dealers around me source any part within 2-3 days.
A good idea to keep calling them more often just to make sure you are not forgotten.

Hi @TonyHSD

Our problem is that the fault is intermittent and completely random. It has now occurred 5 or 6 times in the last couple of months, the last time being as I was braking gently into a parking space with a wall behind it. The beeps started, the pedal lost feel and I had to press it quite hard to avoid hitting the wall. It usually lasts a couple of days or a few startups before the pedal gradually returns to normal and the fault warnings are gone the next time the car is started. Like you I thought it might be connection related but I am reliant on the dealer fixing it while it is covered by the warranty. I was promised a call back today but as usual, nothing yet!

I see.
You will need to push them sort it out asap as brake issues are a serious matter and you can’t use the car with red light on dashboard. A new hub can be with the dealer within 2 days if ordered from Toyota warehouse so they need to get it done quickly.
Warranty works has always been a hassle. Stand for your rights and push them firmly and they will do it.

Not that I'm an expert, but my old Yaris did this. All sorts of warnings and red lights. After the 12V Battery was changed, these "faults" disappeared.

So I rang the salesman who sold the car, and my last 2 new Corollas, and told him that I was at the point of writing to their MD and copying in to Toyota. He asked me to give him 10 minutes, after which the service manager rang and arranged to collect the car an hour later! The part has now come in. 😊
