Hi all,
Me and my new Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid happy to be together with you in a Toyota owners club.
Can you please help me to understand if it is normal to have a voice controll button on a steering wheel working only when AndroidAuto/Carplay is connected. If not it just show me "Service unavailable".
Just strange in a new car 2024 I can't make a call using voice.
Multimedia center is the same as in a top model, I specially checked at local dealler top complectation and it also doesn't work.
Car is bought at official dealler.

Have you tried the standard voice recognition without pushing the button. Wake up is ‘hi Toyota’

i find it probably the best I’ve used tbh.
 

Hi Toyota phone John… hi Toyota navigate home, hi Toyota I’m hot (turns down the AC by 2c each time) , hi Toyota open all windows…. Hi Toyota selected BBC radio 5 sport live….. etc…

no need to pause after hi Toyota just preface your instruction with it… if you do pause it’ll ask what do you want….

What model do you have and was the multimedia set up at handover QR code scan etc

If set up for you it’s worth going into the multimedia setting (gear cog icon) and scroll down to ‘voice and search’ and check the wake word is activated as is voice prompt….

just noted the default wake word is ‘hey Toyota’ not ‘ hi toyota’

If you haven’t set up and paired yourself to the car and multimedia via the app the this video is pretty good and even goes through the reset procedure first..

How can I check if it is the latest model/system?

Multimedia was not setup by QR and it is not connected to Toyota app. Unfortunately Toyota app is not available to be downloaded in my region.

If the app is not available in your country voice command probably isn’t either.

your best bet is goto toyota manuals website put in you VIN number on the manual page and do a search to see how to configure it and if it is available.
