I noted some "whistle" noise from behind my ear and suspect that it's from the gap between the doors at the B pillar.  If you open the door slightly, you can see that there is quite a gap between the door and the body which, when the door is shut, leaves quite an area for wind to swirl around in.

Existing gap

Only just fitted - I'll know later when I go out!  I'll report back

Your whistling sound could also be coming from the rain guards you have fitted to the windows.

Just been on a longish run on A10 road, 60 mph. Listened very carefully and the slight whistle has stopped completely. I'd mark it up as a success.

Might do this, also noted the lower section below this has a ‘recessed flange’ on the rear door leading edge that is begging for a seal to be slipped over it. Also the lower external edge where the door plastic trim doesn’t quite meet the sill, nothing a bit of foam tape couldn’t resolve…

I’ve noted Tesla owners do similar things and have kits made up for sealing the doors better to cut down on noise. Might look into it further.

i recently looked at the BYD Seal U DM-I and the fit and finish, overall noise suppression is up to, if not better, than premium German levels.  Why oh why won’t Toyota do this sort of thing. I find the ride, drive line etc very good in the YC , just let down by the final detail that is not expensive in the grand scheme of things….

If you browse aliexpress, I'm pretty sure I've seen a lower door seal similar to above.

Here an example of lbx door and the seals, something to note when looking for an upgrade in that matter.
For reference my car has no seals like yours Yaris but also no wind whistle from b pillar at all at any speed.

You’ve given me food for thought, I’m going to pop along to a Lexus dealer and see first hand the differences in door sealing….

Sound insulation depending also on these plastic detail around the the door corners on the lbx picture above. These are important too they seal the bodywork welding.  For the rear hatch many small cars lack a plastic trim surround, again another place where outside noise may enter the cabin.

Visited both Lexus and Toyota today to compare door dealings.
For Corolla models and up they all use a rubber blocker on the window frame portion of the rear door closing the gap there. Lexus go a bit further and also block the gap between the door panels too.
a few pictures…

Seems very similar to the £2.79 item I bought by the look of it.

To me seems like those rubber/plastic covers at the corners of the door and along the arches are the one who make real difference in sound insulation. Lexus has those, and BYD has them too and it is very well insulated from outside world.

As a new owner of a 2024 YC Excel, I have found the road noise to be the most annoying thing by far (with the exception of the USB socket placement).

I know it was well documented but it's still surprising and the B pillar in particular does seem something my ears focus on.

In a similar area, when it was very rainy in September I found there would also be quite a distinct "drip" noise from the B Pillar area every few seconds.

I'm assuming with the gap between the doors it's where the water is collecting and dripping down between them - has anyone else noticed this or should be concerned my Pan roof might not be fully sealed and the leak is somewhat more nefarious? 🙂

If it's the former then that's just something to consider for adding anything that affects the water drip-off (positively or negatively)!
