Automatic headlight sensor/ sensitivity adjustment

Recommended Posts

Hi my 2011 1.3 IQ is doing well for her age, she's been good to me.Small problem I keep ignoring her auto lights come on to early and this bugs me a bit, I would like to adjust the sensitivity to come on later if possible.I understand the sensor is top front of the dash board and if the problem was the opposite and coming on too late I could resort to some transparent tape as a quick fix to emulated darkness. But it's coming on too early! I can confirm the sensor works just too early. My limited searching for an answer on UT has led me repeatedly to a Toyota Fortuna fix over the pond, as below.Ok different model but I'm inclined to think this might be the way to see the light brothers, but the light switch layout differs. And my best attempts to translate into IQ Uk don't work.ie different switching combinations.

In the event I'm completely wrong here, (probably) does anyone know if this is possible for 2011 IQ.

A UK IQ how to guide would be appreciated or put me on the right path, I did think about buying a new sensor.

Thank you

You can adjust the levels with Techstream or a suitable scan tool

Thanks good suggestions, I have OBD2 tool and It shows no error codes and does not give an option to adjust or even to see any levels.Techstream would involve further cost fleabay £20+ with uncertainty about what I'm doing or Toyota involvement.New sensors about £10+ on same site.

Local mech asked if I'm using silicon type based products on my dash, which I do like a bit of autoglym vinyl/ rubber care.It appears the build up makes the sensor less sensitive and to clean it with a bit of white spirit to restore normal working.

Yes well embarrassing seems obvious now. However I did clean previously with dettox thinking dirt may be the culprit. It wasn't removing the coating.Problem solved for me hope this helps someone.

Thanks again
