Initial Car Set Up

I'm due pick up a 2021 2wd Rav4 this week from a main dealer.

I'm trying to anticipate what set up I might need to do to the car on day 1.

There will be the obvious things like connecting phones, setting home address in navigation etc.

Are there any other key settings you recommend changing on day one?

Suggestions...

Create a My Toyota account.

Get the MyT or My Toyota app (can't recall which of the two you will need).

Sync your phone with the car.

Connect the multimedia system to your My Toyota account.

Vehicle settings... Down to preferences really...

Enable parking brake when moving the gear stick to P, disable when moving to D or R.

Set LTA (if equipped ) to low sensitivity unless you like a real world game of ping pong.

Set door locking and unlocking rules. I just have it set to open and close all doors at once and lock doors when in D or moving. Can't recall how it's described.

Door welcome lights I have set to max time as I'm usually faffing with the steering lock.

There's more but these are some of the main things.

BTW... The hybrid is susceptible to the CANbus attack. There are some dealer options to fit plates and other things to mitigate the issue. Otherwise it can be stolen in about 30 seconds. Invest in a good steering lock.

My dealer also applied Smar******er to the Cat free of charge on my previous RAV4 and also to my current Highlander, and applied warning stickers to the front windows.  A slight deterrent, plus remote possibility of Police tying the culprits to the theft if it does get taken and the culprits are unlucky enough to get caught!

If it's of interest to be able to open and close the windows from outside the car by holding the lock or unlock button on the Fob, check if it's already enabled and if not ask the dealer to enable it.  Useful if you get out and find a window is open or for opening all windows when approaching the car on a hot day.  Heaven knows why Toyota doesn't make this enabled by default or a user setting.  On all other cars I'm aware of having this features it's enabled by default.

Adjust the drivers seat

Adjust the steering column

Adjust the rear view mirror

Adjust the door mirrors

Then drive the car home, get acquainted with it and make sure you are happy with it. All of that other fiddling with superfluous stuff can wait a day or two.

Thanks all, I'm getting the protection plates and a tracker fitted as part of the purchase. I'm certainly concerned about the vehicle's security so will look at a steering wheel lock as well.

Fair shout about the real essentials Red_Corolla.
