Service Costs

I just collectd my 04 avensis from its first 10K service - it cost me, 83.00 - ok fair enough but then I had a look at what they did. As far as I can see they changed the oil&filter and checked the types. When I worked on my old bangers changing the oil was opening the drain plug and leaving it so I'm a bit supprised at this cost of a 10K oil change...

How does this comare to others ?

Cheers

Kobie.

It may seem more expensive than the prices here in Romania, but we are requested to take our Toyotas for the check every 7,500 km, that is about every 5,000 miles.

For the first check of my Avensis D-4D (including 7 l of oil and the oil filter) I had to pay the equivalent of GBP 60, at the Toyota dealer in Bucharest. So, yes, they are dreadfully expensive. And the higher the mileage, the higher the cost of technical checks.

  • 1 year later...

I live in London and previously owned a Nissan Primera. My folks live in Norfolk and so from time to time I combined my Nissan services with a trip to see them. The difference in price was substantial! I am now wondering if the same is true of Toyota labour rates across the UK. Last week I had to take my 99 Avensis into a Toyota service centre in Battersea, London. I asked about their hourly labour rate and they quited me £80 per hour. Can some of you post the hourly labour costs for other dealers in your part of the country.

Thanks in advance.

You could always buy a VW and pay double this amount for the same thing.

My first bill of £76 for my Avensis made me almost hug the receptionist.

Almost!

I'm quite fortunate that my son works at a Toyota dealership, so only pay £10 hour labour rates. ;)

Before this though, I rang around dealers within 30 mile radius & quoted fictional prices that they needed to beat to get my custom. It's quite amazing how much they can drop prices with a single phone call!

In addition, you no longer have to have your car serviced at a franchised dealer. You can use any garage, providing they use genuine Toyota parts.

My advise is shop around or DIY

p.s. I paid £114 for my 20,000 service 18 months ago.

Forgive my ignorance (Avensis owner for 1 week and no owner's manual yet), but why is the 20,000 service generally so expensive (above examples aside)?

The 20k services is the full service which can take about 2-3 hours the 10k service is just oil and filter change and air filter. Toyota call there 10k service a health check mine was in about 45 minutes my dads avensis did not take much longer.

If that's the case, they should leave you a full bottle of screen wash in the car or not charge you for it. I've had it in the past where I've discovered half a bottle on the passenger seat as they didn't use it all.

I don't think I'll be taking my car to a main dealer again. I now pay about a 3rd of what I used to and actually get better service by going to a local mechanic.

yep but when you need a warranty claim ie within 3 yrs and as we all know the hush hush 5 yr 100 k warr :P :P

its best to play one dealer of against the other in that they will discount price

i always get a discount especially when you book in advance and make sure you have checked and know what they will do eg diy Wiper Blades screenwash and do not take a sercice car :( :(

i have found prices chepaer ""up north " and the price saved can pay for a day out , meal and or hotel :hokus-pokus:

I've just been quoted £243.34 incl for a 'B' service at a Toyota dealer in Norfolk. My 99 Avensis has done 19,000 miles with an 'A' service conducted last Nov. The service prior to that was also an 'A'. I must have the service completed with Toyota or the 1yr warranty will be invalidated (it has 11 more months to run) Is this a reasonable figure or too high?
