Service Costs

I've just emailed Toyota's customer relations. I was sold this car by a main Toyota dealer just 2 months before a major service was due. I discovered from another dealer that it is common practice for Toyota to service their cars if they are nearing a service (within 6 months according to one of their workshop managers). So I am waiting to see what Toyota's response is.

Will post results once they contact me.

Well it was worth it. Customer relations have been onto the dealer who sold me the car and they have agreed to pay for it to be serviced here in London. They admitted that they should have serviced it. Since it is the biggest service possible it will cost them about £350. Peanuts to them I know, but a bit shabby that they sold it just two months before it was required.

I would have expeted that to be done already. My Camry had only been serviced 3,000 miles before I bought it but the dealer did it again, they did an MOT too even though it's not due for it's first one for around 5 months.

I've just been quoted £243.34 incl for a 'B' service at a Toyota dealer in Norfolk. My 99 Avensis has done 19,000 miles with an 'A' service conducted last Nov. The service prior to that was also an 'A'. I must have the service completed with Toyota or the 1yr warranty will be invalidated (it has 11 more months to run) Is this a reasonable figure or too high?

I take it your service intervals are 9,000 miles?

The B service is the extensive one with spark plugs, filters, Brakes, etc.

As mentioned before...........shop around all garages. As long as they use genuine Toyota parts you shouldn't have any problems.

I just collectd my 04 avensis from its first 10K service - it cost me, 83.00 - ok fair enough but then I had a look at what they did. As far as I can see they changed the oil&filter and checked the types. When I worked on my old bangers changing the oil was opening the drain plug and leaving it so I'm a bit supprised at this cost of a 10K oil change...

How does this comare to others ?

Cheers

Kobie.

Did I have the best deal?

I am in Scotland, Glasgow. I use Arnold Clark as my dealer, no matter my Polo, Golf or Avensis.

I got my Avensis July 2003 at its 14k. My dealer sold me a two-year/36k manufacture servicing for £199. So I use it for my 20k, 30k and 40k (almost 50K). It does saved me a lot (I can see it from their eyes!). I just did my 50k. It costed me £65 for labour (after 10% discount) and £56 parts.

Compare VW dealer with Toyota dealer here, I like my VW one. They do their job in the Germany way, everything is accurate and detailed. They give you all the documents they made. But toyota guys something only remeber swipe my card (I am not saying they did not do the service). Sometimes they passed me the checking list but forgot to stamp the service book. Sometimse the oposite.

..just had two quotes in London and out by the M25... £120 for 10,000 KM service...

..and thats for half an hours work...

..maybe I should get it done at Kwik Fit? If they used Toyota parts, then it wouldn't invalidate the warranty.

Anyone had any experience with servicing in London or doing it through a third party garage?

There's a Toyota garage which does the 10k service for only 90 squid within the M25. I'm not going to give you a name, address or directions, cos they haven't paid me for advertising. So all you get is a riddle:

My name is that of a girl.

When you see the plane, turn right...though if you carry on straight, you'll eventually see many.

Look in a mirror and smile...you see those gates? That's where I'm based.

Good luck.

Hello to everyone. I have just bought myself a 2003 Avensis 2.0 D4D at about 30k on the clock. The dealer did the 30k servicing before handing the car over to me. They want to sell me a servicing deal (Service Assured) for the next three servicing (40/50/60k) for a cost of £600. In the price the next MOT is included, plus 10% discount on mechanical repairs, tyres, brake pads, etc and the labour associated with fitting them.

Does this sound a good deal? How much these services normally cost? Reading previous replies suggests that, if the cost of 10k and 20k are similar to costs for servicing at higher mileages, then £600 seems way too high.

I would be grateful for some advice.

Thanks

Gunsal

How much do people spend on fuel each year? Why quibble about service costs with an approved dealer when you know the job will be done properly, your warranty will be valid and resale value will be that much higher? My dealer always gives me unused screenwash, lubricant and a can of oil. And they collect and return car, washed and vacuumed.

The Toyota's maintenance costs are among the cheapest in Portugal, I payed less than 100 euros for the 15 kkm (~50 euros of oil), charging 30 €/hour. The 30 kkm service was ~230 €.

The 60K service is the most expensive one because that's when the cambelt needs changing.

I've just had my 60K service done by Mr T where I brought the car from and it cost £380 with 10% discount on parts and labour.

Thanks Selfbuild. That gives me a better idea. I now think £600 is not bad, considering it includes two major and a minor service plus a free MOT. I probably will take it up.

Before you part with that amount of money make sure that the cambelt change is included!

It is NOT strickly classed as part of a service and is usually priced as an extra

The cambelt replacement is part of the 60K service according to my service booklet, so should be included in the price.

Also the Toyota dealer I took mine too told me the cambelt was due to be changed when I booked the car in and it was part of the 60K service.

Yes - part of the Toyota Main Dealer service guidelines - But if not expressly stated on a third-party service contract I'd be checking the small print!!

Apparently the cambelt replacement is not included in the service deal.

The garage says normally the 60K service cost about £280 plus £200 for cambelt change. But, I was told that having the service deal would save me ~£150.

So, I haven't taken the deal yet, but may do so next week.

I live in Belfast and have just had the first routine service (10K) carried out by the main Toyota dealer on my 05 Avensis diesel. The bill amounted to £174!!! In addition to the standard service the dealer claims to have cleaned (?) and adjusted the handbrake. If it needed adjusting then it needed adjusting from new and I shouldn't have to pay. I near exploded, what a rip-off. After protesting the bill was reduced to £122 !!! still very dear. My last 2 cars were VW's and even VW never charged this kind of money.

when I queried the price of the 60K sevice, they told me that the price didn't include new spark plugs for which I'd have to pay extra (plus fitting)!!!!

I was quoted £120+ for a 30k service on my T4 by Charles Clark, Bilston Rd, Wolverhampton. I told him what he could do with his quote. I rang Davies Toyota, Lichfield Rd, Stafford and they have done the exact same service for £64.34....nearly half price. It pays to shop around. If anyone from Charles Clark is reading this, I, nor my friends will be using you again until you bring your prices down to a sensible level.

I live in London and previously owned a Nissan Primera. My folks live in Norfolk and so from time to time I combined my Nissan services with a trip to see them. The difference in price was substantial! I am now wondering if the same is true of Toyota labour rates across the UK. Last week I had to take my 99 Avensis into a Toyota service centre in Battersea, London. I asked about their hourly labour rate and they quited me £80 per hour. Can some of you post the hourly labour costs for other dealers in your part of the country.

Thanks in advance.

The last service I did on my SR D4D was in Peterborough... had previously serviced in St Albans where labour was £75 per hour, Peterborough was only £62 (this was back in December 05). Now I think that is steep. Anybody know anyway of finding specialist independent garages for Toyota's?
