For anyone interested in all things OBDII for the Carista or Hybrid Assistant apps, there is a whopping 32% off on Amazon at the moment on the top-of-the-range Carista OBD-EVO dongle here that brings the price down from the RRP of £64.99 to £44.19

Anyone who has followed my posts about Hybrid Assistant etc, will know that I have consistently recommended the OBDLink LX adaptor (as do the HA team) but today I received one of the above OBD-EVO adaptors and I can now say, after directly comparing them, that this new Carista adaptor is actually faster at scanning than the OBDLink LX (you can see this in real time in Hybrid Assistant) and, like the latter, it also has a low-power sleep mode so it can be left plugged in all the time.

£20.80 off is a great deal so if you were thinking of getting an OBDII scanner, grab it while you can!

Here is a link to the relevant HA page...

A comparison table (old vs. new)...

Note: the OBD-EVO is in the list of compatible adaptors for Hybrid Assistant.

+1 👌

I had my evo few months ago and it did come with free lifetime diagnostic and customisation options and the only paid extras are life data monitoring.
I can’t tell a real difference in speed in my case because my car is old and this might be a reason but at least I have free diagnostic with Carista own app.

and now the difference between vw and Toyota

There are fees with the choice of paying monthly or annually. But you can cancel before completion of a month, and when I signed up earlier this year I got the first month free. Look at Carista's website here

No mention of the Yaris Cross on the Carista website.

It’ll be controlled by the same ECUs as the Yaris.

Anyone got hybrid assistant working with carista EVO? Carista app connects fine, but hybrid assistant says connecting, intiating OBD, unknown then disconnected. Have to quit and reopen to try again but same. Made sure bluetooth disconnected from car, but carista app doesn't care if car connected and works fine.

Offer on if you buy a year upfront (£39 instead of 60) - basic functions free but limited.

I have no issues on connection with evo version. Only first time when the phone remembered the Carista adapter I needed to go settings on the phone and forget this device, then re start the assistant app and search for adapter, connect to evo and all works as usual. On recent try again both adapters are shown in the app when connecting and I can pick the one I like to use.
Perhaps once you set up is completed you wouldn’t have any issues after that.

Thanks...have an old phone that I  can try and make sure nothing else is paired. But fact Carista connects without problem suggests its not a bluetooth issue.

Since you have a 2024 car you may need to change a code in HA's database (I had to on mine). Send an email to the HA team (who are always helpful), explain your issue and I'm sure they will give you a fix.

You could also give this a try but your code may be different for the Corolla...

open "Hybrid Reporter" from the menu (spanner icon next to power - bottom left)
tap the 3 dots top right
select "Database Maintenance" (page)
enter Code "KBAB" lower left
press "Set Code"
restart and reconnect
(this was the fix given to me)

Indeed. Let me know if it works.

Can these OBD scanners cause a maulfunction to be sent into the vehicle causing serious issues? I am not sure that also going into menus etc etc would not lead to some sort of error. I stayed away from them for this reason.

Do the manufacturers allow this access to the OBD from the consumer-end? Would it not void the warranty?

Is this OBD scanner universal for all cars or just for certain car models?

No. Read only in most cases

No. Not possible because of the way they work.

The "Menus" I talked about are on the phone that is accessing the device via an App. Nothing to do with the vehicle.

No. When using an App to change features that are customisable, these are only enabled in that way by the manufacturer. (they are called PIDs or Process IDs)

Most OBD scanners work on all cars to the CANBUS and OBDII standards. Whether its associated App (they all have them) works for your particular model of car, that information will be supplied with the App.

Thanks for that. Would these OBD scanners pick up if improvements/cleaning are needed for the throttle bodies, map/maf sensors, IAT sensor and PCV valve?

They will show any fault codes related to such devices, thereby diagnosing any potentially related faults. However, they won't actually tell you what to do.
