They will show any fault codes related to such devices, thereby diagnosing any potentially related faults. However, they won't actually tell you what to do.

I see thank you. Is that one of the better OBD scanners then? There are so many out there and I would prefer to get a high-end one.

Yes. It is on par with the OBDLink LX... (which is quite expensive)

...and has shown (to me) that the OBD-EVO has a slightly faster scan speed...

Also, as you can see, the EVO has quite a hefty discount on it just now...

Look no further than one of the above then...

Indeed. Let me know if it works.

Well this is a bit disappointing...tried Hybrid Assistant on a different phone to be sure not a phone problem and same issue again. So tried adding the KBAB code and it then said Yaris but crashed. Emailed them and got back a somewhat curt reply:

"MY24 cars are not supported, as listed in the FAQ on the official website"

just that, no hi, no thanks for your query, no sorry its not available yet, no link to the FAQ....and no explanation as to why they can provide a code for a MY24 yaris.

so guess no hybrid assistant for me 🤷‍♀️

But if it works on Yaris 24 why it should not on Corolla 24, that’s strange.

My apologies for your experience. They've always been fine with me.(?) This is an extract from their FAQs...

The "MY20" is the same as the MY24 since it is the same basic HSD(Mk)4 version. (I had to use the same fix on my Red Baron which was a 2020 Launch Edition car)

I have no idea why they say "approximate" for the engine state. It's always accurate on mine.

Don't give up yet. It works fine on mine, and I'm sure it will on yours, too although I can't guarantee for the Corolla...

I experienced a similar crash on mine when I changed cars from the Red Baron to the Blue Demon but I fixed it like this:

First, make sure the dongle is already BT paired on your phone, is out and the car is fully off.

1. Go into the HA App settings in Android system settings on your phone.

2. Force stop the App.

3. Clear the data & cache completely. (this will mean the next time you run HA it will be clean and you'll have to change some settings again to suit the car but leave that for now...)

4. Open the app and do the KBAB fix I already mentioned then shut the App down.

5. Plug the dongle in and start the car.

6. Open HA and select your dongle from the list to connect to...

Hopefully, all will now be well. Let me know how it goes. If it still doesn't work on the Corolla then it looks like you'll be out of luck.😢

Sorry, again, that you didn't get much help from the HA guys...😢

Thanks for the follow up and additional advice. No need for you to be sorry!

I'll give it a try on OHs Yaris but that probably won't be for a week now....for some inconvenient reason she wants to drive it 😁

I'll see if above can make any difference to the Corolla...their FAQ says 2019 1.8 and 2.0 corolla supported, which again you'd think would be much the same as the 2023 etc

One thing that I am really chuffed about (and it has saved a visit to the dealer!) with this new Carista OBD-EVO adaptor is that it has given me access to the "remote start" functionality of the car in the customization section which is essential for the remote "Start Climate" to work.

Guess what? Mine was set to "Off" which is why my "Start Climate" wouldn't work from the MyToyota App! It is now set to "On" thanks to the EVO and it all works fine!! That's a function that is very useful during cold winters! I like that for it to work, a pre-condition is that all the doors are locked which makes sense if you are parked in the street (I found this out when I tried it with the doors unlocked!).

Even more pleased that I purchased it now!

Very odd that 'remote start' was disabled from the factory... Great that you've got it working !!

I've just received mine but haven't opened it yet. I noticed this on the website https://carista.com/en/web-terms

Quote

Promotional Terms

For promotion “Diagnose for FREE with EVO”

Applicable only for access from the United Kingdom and Romania.

Promotional period for the United Kingdom: 17.07.2024 – 17.10.2024

Promotional period for Romania: 09.09.2024 – 09.10.2024

I had seen the free UK diagnostics mentioned before but wasn't aware it was a short term promotion few new users.

I've asked them the question anyway if it's included. If not (or if they don't reply) it may be sent back.

I've received a very prompt reply (only messaged them a few hours ago), so credit to them for that.

Probably useful for others so I'll share it here

Hello Tim,

Thank you for reaching out! We removed the free trial on October 30th, and the lifetime diagnostics offer has ended and is no longer available. However, you can still explore all the app's features before purchasing a subscription.

By connecting your car, you can check if there are any fault codes and see what live data, customizations, and service tools are available for your vehicle.

Please note, that a subscription is only required if you want to:

  • View the full description of fault codes and reset them
  • Access advanced live data
  • Use service tools
  • Change customizations

As for the removal of the free trial, this decision was made to maintain the quality and sustainability of our service. It allows us to continue improving the app, adding new features, and ensuring the best possible experience for all users.

We appreciate your understanding, and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

As I'm really not a fan of subscription models then personally for me the question is more if the dongle hardware is good value for use with other tools e.g. HA etc

Still I think a good spot by @CPN regardless of what I think!

Yeah, that was a bit strange but at least the fix was relatively simple.

Only you can decide that but at least you have the 30 day window to try and see...

Carista evo is really good addition to any car owners and enthusiasts.
Even if your car it’s not fully supported yet they will likely added on later and even without free diagnostic as seems to be limited time purchase only the adapter is really good because a yearly subscription it’s more than half price dealerships diagnostic and listening their bs.
At only £45 current offer is great value for money, work with any other app like hybrid assistant, dr. Prius etc and in an event of fault you can run a quick diagnostic and be aware of what is happening with your car.
Where Carista helped me and sort my problems

1. Wheel speed sensor failure

2. Hybrid system malfunction

3. Bad hybrid battery

4. Finally- I was able to make customisations that I really wanted like seat belt dings, interior lights, door lock etc.

Do I pay subscription, no.
Only if I run into trouble like when I had speed sensors failed and I was stranded on the road with dashboard like Christmas tree 🎄, purchased subscription on the spot, check trouble codes, understood the problem, got home safely, parts ordered, car fitted with new hub , after two days back on the road and rolling. No dealer drama ,no  lies and no bs.
