I against any EV with air cooling like Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe. They are known to have fast Battery degradation.  Even Prius and RAV4 PHEV have automatic cooling protection during charging, The AC will automatically blast on even when you leave it in parking lots.

The new Prius and RAV4 PHEV now has dedicated heat pump to cool and warm the Battery during charging, unlike Lupo, Smart, Zoe, etc.

Used phev are under question too as they reach 10 years and older the traction Battery replacement will be expensive.
Anything more than simple hev Toyota is a burden for the second, third or any consecutive owner.
Corolla hatchback 1.8 hybrid icon or design are top contenders imo.
These are good for everything. The only issue eventually from a short trips might be the 12v Battery

On a Leaf the official exchange Battery programme is £4,000 (£5k new- £1k for the old), however, I believe that cheaper 3rd party solutions are available.

As an EV, one would save on VED ~£180pa plus fuel costs. This is an interesting thread to read (from an ex-trader) https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/182472/nissan-leaf--

Like all car choices they are individual decisions & the best (only? ) person to make the decision is the ultimate owner/user after taking into account their needs/wants & resources.

Another option would be a 1.0 vvt-i Aygo Exclusive.   This isn’t a hybrid so you should have little problems with the 12V Battery with short journeys and it will return you 55 mpg.  As has been said no petrol/diesel/hybrid cars like very short journeys as can cause early wear of the engine, so would still be a good idea once every week or two to give it a good run at 70mph for 30min or so to keep engine running well.  Good luck.

It won’t be a problem for the engine but only for the 12v Battery eventually.
Hybrids are absolutely fine for long or short, town or motorway, flat or hilly areas. Engines are same as any other , batteries are the burden we need to take into account and the batteries are the major problem in any evs and why those are going to fail once again after first try 100 years ago. 🪫😅👌

Whilst 1.8 mile commutes are not great for any internal combustion engine as normal operating temperature won’t be fully reached and condensation in oil will build up,  I agree in reality it should not effect the cars reliability over 5 years or 100k.  Certainly the 1.0L engine has a lower thermal efficiency compared to the 1.8/2.0L hybrid engines so in theory should heat up quicker.   My 2.0L hybrid engine gets up to normal operating temp after about 5 miles.

Main benefit moving away from a hybid car is prelonging the life of the 12V Battery.

ChachaSwiss,  The Corolla is a great car and if this meets your needs I think it would be a fine choice of car, economical, easy to drive in town, reliable etc.   My only bit of advice would be have you off street parking and can you charge the cars 12V Battery securely as this will be needed frequently  (I.e once per month at least) and especially so with your short journeys.
