Paint quality (or lack thereof)

So I was in the market for a new Corolla and visited my local Toyota showroom at the weekend.  Whilst waiting for the salesperson I was looking at all the models there.  They had a really nice looking GR Sport Corolla in two tone red and black, from 4 feet away it looked great.  The closer I got I could see the terrible paint quality, it was orange peel in most places and the more I looked at it the more I thought of Hammerite.  They were lots of other models there, BZ4X, RAV4, Yaris and Yaris Cross and an Aygo-X.  Only the Corolla had this poor finish.  Is this a British made thing?  Why would the paint be so poor?

Considering the inflated price of a new Corolla, I expected better.
