Insurance help

Hi there,

This is my first post, I am glad this community exists. I apologise if this has been discussed before, I did search but found nothing that would help me. I know that insurance is a hot topic, and I don't want to duplicate threads, but I am struggling to get insurance, and feel that this is actually a problem on the insurances' database. I wonder if anyone has gone through this before.

The car we have is a Toyota Estima from 2013 with the 3.5L V6 engine. It is the Aeras grade.

However, the number plate is not recognised by any insurance databases, so I have to select the model manually. When I try comparison websites, I have to manually select the car and the only 3.5L it comes back as Toyota Estima G, which is the wrong grade. Insurance for the G grade is about £500-£600 on the comparison websites. I phoned many of the companies and they say they cannot modify/change any details (they used to in the past, this is new to me). They offer insurance for Toyota Estima Aeras 2.4L , or Toyota Estima G 3.5L. Very strange. So then I phone the specialists insurers, who know that only the "G" grade comes up and then offer a quote of £2000 because our car is not on the main insurers database.

The Aeras grade we have is the very basic model, it has not extra options whatsoever, the G grade has many upgrades, so it would be more expensive. I really don't understand.

I hope to modify the data on the V5 with DVLA, at the moment, it only shows make: Toyota, and is empty for model. Will that help get the car recognised by mainstream insurers and get decent quotes?

How would I go to get the car with this trim recognize by the main insurers?

With many thanks,

Tony.

I'm sure we have  couple of members with the Aeras.

Aside from that, have a look at the following topic which, especially in later posts, has suggestions where members have successfully got insurance through either brokers or direct (eg. Admiral). Probably would be best to ask for quotes by phone rather than online.

Thank you, I'll look again there. I read it once, but I'll read it again!
Yes, for every quote I get online, I call each broker and try to amend the car details, but they won't do it. They say if it doesn't come up in their database they won't be able to insure it.
They say they can insure the Aeras 2.4L or the G 3.5L, but not Aeras 3.5L... In the past for different cars, I managed to change details when I phoned them, but this year they seem to be "stuck" with "No we can't, if it is not on the DB we won't insure it!"
