Best modes to drive my Rav4 2WD hybrid in ice /snow

Recommended Posts

Please could I ask the fellow forum items a question…..

With the onset of winter, I was wondering what modes people would recommend  for me to use on my Rav4 2WD Hybrid, when driving in ice or snowy conditions?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks.

I find that if the road gets slippy here or i have to drive across a muddy field i put the car in ECO mode as the throttle responsiveness seems to apply the torque more evenly and i get less wheel-spin.

Also worth noting that if it does snow and you're stuck, turning off the traction control may help since you can regulate the power to the wheels rather than the computer cutting it due to wheel spin.

The best mode is 'gently' ... 😉

I rarely used / use anything other than Normal and a light foot, but as said above, Eco will make is easier (and Sport more difficult).

Turning off traction control is a significant help. However I would fit winter or all season tyres too.

All above is correct.
You can drive in normal mode and actually this is the best mode as long as you can control accelerator precisely, keep the car moving smoothly off the line in ev mode, electric motors offer high torque low rpm, something really helpful in slippery conditions. Do not turn off traction control. This is absolutely must have extra and can help a ton in slippery situations.
The only time you ever need to disable traction control is if you get stuck.
Switch off TC and with moderate power and wheel spin you can get yourself out of been stuck. If you don’t have all season tyres , just lower slightly your tyre pressure and you will get more grip, again only if you get stuck and then turn tc on and pump up your tyres to max recommended psi.
Fwd hybrid with good tc and good tyres is absolutely a bad weather proof.
