Corolla Clutch Drama!

Hi,

I bought a 2012 Corolla with 183000 km less than a year ago. While driving I heard a grinding sound. The clutch broke and the gears wouldnt work. It was towed to a garage and a new clutch was installed. Yesturday, while driving, there was a strong burning smell, smoke, the gear stick is stuck in neutral (manual gearbox) and the car had to be towed back to the garage again. I was told it was a common problem with the Corollas, but what do I do now? Do I have a bad egg? I dont have the full details yet as the garage is closed for the weekend, but on Monday, I want to be armed with information before I speak to them! I bet someone reading this is shaking their head and can advise. I bought a Corolla because they have such a great reputation for reliability....is this to be expected with the 2012?

Cannot say we have ever read anything about regular problems with clutches in this forum. or the Auris Forum , ( the name for the UK Corolla post 2007 -2019)

Generally we have found  our Toyota clutches ( Avensis and current 2006 Corolla) very reliable, good for at least 80k miles.

Does your receipt detail the parts used ?   

Typically its a 3 part set, the clutch plate, cover and release bearing and if worn / scored to replace the flywheel as well. 

Perhaps you also have an unsual problem with the clutch hydrualics ?

Eiither way, it should be down to the garage to correct  the problem for free if its attributable the their work or parts .
