Free tracker fitted during first service

Just had first service done this morning at my Toyota dealer (Stoneacre silverlink).
They told me at pick up that 2 recalls had been done:

1/ PDC & R/SSC BRAKE ACTUATOR (Skid control ECU update)

2/ tracker fitted with 3 years subscription (ends 11/27)

This is what was fitted https://www.tracker.co.uk/products/retrieve-battery-powered

Pleasant surprise BUT I wasn’t given an option not to have the tracker fitted. If you don’t want it fitted say so before your service.

The subscription is £159 per year so I doubt I will be renewing once my 3 years are up.

No idea why they fitted the tracker to your vehicle as the Corolla hasn't really been targeted for theft.

Toyota UK even stated - Since October 2022, Toyota models are subject to a platform change that negates CAN Bus theft

I was going to ask the same...is your profile correct as Corolla wasn't on the list.

I’m curious if anyone else has had one fitted?

Yes, it’s correct: 2.0 excel corolla 73 plate

My October 2023 2ltr GR Sport Hatch had its first service mid October 2024 at Steven Eagell Toyota Peterborough.

1/ PDC & R/SSC BRAKE ACTUATOR (Skid control ECU update)

2/ tracker fitted with 3 years subscription (ends 11/27)

Non of the above was carried out.

Perhaps a November release and you get them done next time?

A bit confused, the Toyota app does half a decent level of tracking your car.

What's a dedicated tracker required for? I mean if its for stolen recovery I am all for it but will insurance become cheaper? Doubt it.

Its not an insurance approved tracking device & its extremely easy to bypass so the location service stops working.

Supposedly get a discount from insurers. Most now  ask if one fitted. I won’t find out till renewal time though.

The dealers are so bad these days. 🚫
They are messing up with your cars and you are getting problems just because of that !
If me I will not let them touch my car and install anything additional and if a new car been messed up with any cameras or additional devices I will refuse to collect or accept it on delivery.
The car itself comes from factory with some unnecessary electronics that reduces the Toyota infamous reliability and on top of that they are adding more ? ! ⚠️
What is that all about?

I'll be making sure it's on the service paperwork when dropping my vehicle off that I refuse to accept Toyota's wonderful offer of a free tracker.

As I understand it, it's not actually installed or connected to the vehicle as such, just hidden inside it somewhere, so why refuse it?

My vehicle already has better aftermarket Thatcham approved security devices fitted to it.

Fair enough. Despite that I'd probably have let them fit it anyway as a bit of extra protection, but each to their own.
