Hi

Having a problem with the starting Battery and called the RAC. The RAC man used his scanner and said the Battery needs replaced.

The local garage has quoted £300 + vat, is this normal? Sounds very expensive for a 12v battery. I have changed out batteries on previous vehicles in the past, any show stoppers? I do have a Topdom OBS2 scanner. Are these batteries specialised i.e. mail order or dealer only?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi,

These batteries are small and can fail if the car not been used regularly and for longer time. They are not anything special but AGM batteries and the best to buy new from Toyota dealer. Price will be around £130. They are also easy to fit by yourself and no need any special equipment or diagnostic.
If you don’t want to use original Toyota you can buy Yuassa online from tayna batteries or from another place and you can get even slightly bigger one 45Ah instead of 35Ah oem.
Definitely not £500 job! ⚠️🛑

the garage is having you over, the Battery is around the £150 mark (£175 delivered), and not usually stocked on the shelf, Toyota main dealer will have one and is about the most reasonable place to get one
