I have owned several BMW,s and VW,s.so experienced the excellent torque converter box on the BMW and the DSG box in the VW.

Both great boxes for sure. Now I have the RAV 4 with the planetery gear CVT box. Well I'm happy with it, seamless gear change, always in the right gear it seems. Yes the engine (ICE) revs when pushing hard, but we know it's not a clutch slipping. I've just changed from a BMW 30D m sport and don't feel I've gone down rather the other way to be honest.

The e-cvt Toyota employs users planetary gears & electric motors. It’s very simplistic, yet robust & reliable. There are no gear changes, one of the electric motors spins part of the gear set at varying speeds to vary the output ratio.

short video here to explain the principles of the system (note that Toyotas system doesn’t have belts or chains, it’s gear to gear direct mesh) If you want more detail check out Weber Auto on YouTube for some very tech videos on a Toyota RAV transaxle.
