I understand vehicle duty is changing vastly come next April but I cannot find any clear information on how older vehicles are affected.

To get to the point is the road tax going up on my 2002 Corolla T-Sport? I believe my wife's 2014 Qashqai 1.5 dci is not subject to any changes...

I hope someone can shed some light on this thank you.

As far as I'm aware, the Government haven't released tables on the web as yet.

The main changes affect electric vehicles and, for new vehicles, the first year VED which is based on emissions.

For existing cars registered after 1st April 2017 the VED rates for the second year onwards for alternative fuelled vehicles (hybrids) will be £180 per year for 2025/26.

We will see but I believe it’s only for new cars. All previous changes through the years been very similar. They can increase a bit road tax but drastic changes always been for the new cars. Let see what happens this year. I am still £0 tax bracket and so happy.

I've not heard of any major changes happening, aside from hybrid owners getting slightly shafted (We lose the small discount for a low emission vehicle) and EV owners getting massively shafted (They lose all exemptions, so they're going from paying £0 to paying £190 a year, or £600 if the car's list price was over £40,000. Quite the kick in the proverbials.) for on the new flat tax system (Vehicles registered 2017 onwards.)

For people on the CO2-based car tax, band A is being deleted, so again no more £0 tax from April onwards, but anyone with an A-band is being moved to band B which is still only £20.

Anyone on the original engine size-based tax sees a small increase.
