Rav4 2020, power tailgate opening/closing issue

Of late, when first opening my power tailgate of a day, it will only open about 15cm. A further press of one of the three opening buttons, will result in it opening fully - well, sometimes. Usually I have to manually lift it to the maximum opening. It will then close on the button. For the rest of the day it will function normally. Yesterday I took it to Toyota. They worked at it and said it was sorted - it was worse this morning. Now it will do the 15cm stutter on opening and closing. They say that they haven't met this issue before. We've been through the button pressing reset programme several times. I would be grateful for any insight from fellow Rav4 owners who have had similar problem.

Apart from the obvious which caught me about a few times is not standing too close to the boot. The sensor are ultra sensitive and I still have issues if I open the boot then go to either side - it stops every time. Maybe temperature related? Sorry no real help.
