I gather somebody here has a T Sport Corolla, I'm thinking of getting a new 2004 Model 3 door, or the other car i'm considering is a Civic Type R, any thoughts...

Drive them both. The type r is faster and better handeling. The TS is under-stated and low profile, more comfortable and has more hi-tec safty equipment.

recomended is the colour sat nav system

you certainly get alot more in the TS than type R, freind has the type r and it is fast but hasnt got air con as standard, in fact its got leccy windows and mirrors and thats about it for gadgets. But it is fast.

The Corolla has lots of gadgets, not quite as fast but still quick. I looked at em both and decided on Tsport for more comfort. Just waiting to pick it up  Should have been thursdday bit still waiting

What should i be paying for one of these, the on the road price from my local Toyota dealer is £16,295, now I've bought my yaris from these guys and my folks just purchased a celica so i'm well happy with the service, but a quick look about on the net and you can get them for £14,495.

I don't want to fall out with the local garage but at the end of the day its quite a big difference, what you think, should they meet me about half way? £15,295

Is this fair on the garage do they buy the cars the same price as other places, anybody know...

they are 15995 new then probably price of mettalic paint, these are toyotas prices so cant see that garage is ripping you off, but if you can get it cheaper then why not

I'm sure the garage isn't ripping me off the toyota site does say its £16,295 in black, what i was trying to get at is it reasonable to haggle a discount especially as i could get it cheaper else where...

I have to say after picking up my Civic Type-R on Friday if it is driver involvement you are looking for the Honda has it in the bag, it is just so much fun to drive in every aspect.

The Toyota is an excellent choice if your are after more of a cruiser and you like lots of standard equipment as the T-Sport has plenty, my only main criticism of this car is its drone from the engine at 70mph, the really soft suspension, the engine also is not very torquey!

I didn’t realise how much more fun the Civic was to drive than the Corolla until spending this whole weekend with it, don’t get me wrong the Corolla a great car but the Civic is just that bit better!

Nick

Definitely worth taking Nick's comments on board. You can summarise by saying that Toyota have held off getting the last few % of performance in order to get something a little bit more friendly and comfortable.

I sat in traffic for hours yesterday, gently wafted by the air-con in comfortable seats :D , and felt pretty relaxed and refreshed when I got to Silverstone. What a wuss!

However, the Civic was 0.5sec faster on the 0-60 test :( Drive both and see which suits you.

I suppose for completeness, although I hate to say this, the Mini is probably the other car in this class that you could consider. Cornering is very sharp, image is rubbish :D

Cheers

Paul.

I when to the Goodwood Revival Meeting this weekend Sat & Sun and also was stuck in alot of traffic it was also very pleasent to sit in while waiting around in traffic, my CTR is the anniversary model Honda only made 100 silver ones they all have red Recaros, red carpets, Momo steering wheel and the three rear windows tinted and I have air con too.

Haven't driven the Type-R but would still recommend this one. Quality of the Corolla isn't really what you expect from Toyota and as most people have already mentioned the cornering is really, really bad. Actually when I think about it, it's useless! :crybaby:

Drive'em both and make up your mind on your perception.

Have had the CTS for 1½ year now and I can't really say I'm pleased with it.

Again,

It's really a personal preference thing. I test drove the t sport, type r and the cupra r before choosing the t sport. If your looking for a tight handling machine without any extras then get the type r. If your looking for an all rounder get the t sport. Did not rate the cupra r. Plus, not a fan of VAG.

Stick to Japanese and you'll surely be pleased!

This is my thing really I want a fast family car more than a hot hatch I suppose at the end of the day I've got 2 kids to consider as well as her indoors.

Thats the only thing thats swinging me more to the T Sport than the civic, the civic is without doubt the better hot hatch it can't be disputed but you could argue the T Sport is much better value and also if i'm honest more suitable for my needs, the problem is the boy racer in me likes the type R so much...

The problem is that if your heads telling you to get the T-Sport but your heart is saying go for the Type-R you will do the same thing as I did.

You end up buying the Toyota but after a while (1 ¾ years in my case) you decide that you should of bought the Honda and go out & buy one, save yourself the hassle and buy the Civic you know it makes sence!

At the end of the day though there both good cars, just one a more hardcore than the other! I should know I have now own both.......

I can relate to this :)

We were in exactly the same boat so I got her to drive both cars. I knew she would pick the Toyota as she was looking at all the safety/comfort/sensible things that women do, she was thinking about the kids.

Jo public doesn't have a clue what the tSport can do but everyone can see what the typeR is and she figured the Nova boys would pretty much leave her alone in the Corolla.

It was probably the right decision.

As for drivability, she bought an MX5 for me to play with and it's so much fun p1ssing of all the TypeR drivers in that :)

Well I've done it, ordered it this morning in fairness I got a pretty good deal, although he couldn't match what Virgin were offering but there wasn't that much in it and i've dealt with the garage (Toyota World Bridgend) for years and they've always been pretty good.

Get to pick it up in 3-4 weeks time, so look out for a black 3 door new shape T Sport...

I'm all excited now...

Oh and buy the way anybody priced a Toyota 6 disc conversion they are having a laugh quoted £750 for the dash mounted one and £473 for the under the seat, they were a little flexable on price but I'll get a sony for a quarter that price fitted....

I think that in order to enjoy driving the car's limits should be close and below your driving limits. This is possible with CTS but not with many other hot hatches with wider tyres, etc.

CTS can be enjoyable at country roads with very frequent ~90deg bends normally driven with 3rd gear at ~60km/h by an average car/driver. CTS can pass "peacefully" at 70-90km/h and 4000-4500 rpm and agressively with the engine mostly above 6200rpm (you should be alone in the car).

CTS is bad for highways with fast bends, even with the lowering springs. To control it properly you need to a lower gear but it becomes so noisy for long trips, so that you have to upshift. The light wheel steering is an additional problem.
