Thanks for the website male born, will try look around...

Hi Shelly,

didn't you just get the car in for maintenance? And did this judder develop before or after that?

Cheers, Yves.

It was juddering before i went for service thats why i asked them to check it out for me, they said that there were some bolts loose from the calipers and they have now tighten that up for me, but he said it was my brake disc that are not smooth or something thats causing it to judder.... :(

Ah, I see. Time for new discs and pads then. :(

Just make sure you get the best you can, well, without having to overdo it, it's the only thing that stops your car.

How's your arm now, feelin' better?

Cheers, Yves.

I have taken these disc back once already in January because of it doing the same thing, :( From C.A.R and i think they didnt really do a good job... so i have only had them for about 8 months... but if toyota said i need to change them, i think i need to go look for some, think the Brembo ones are about £130+ i guess.... or someone please recommend some to me. I currently got drilled and grooved ones..... what are best?? :help:

well, Brembo is a very good brand, I'm just not sure on the grooved/drilled part, depends quite a bit on your driving style really. Brembo also makes OE brake discs which are the same ones as Toyota's, only the packaging is different.

8 months seems quite a short period for discs to develop run-out, that is provided they have been mounted as it should be, clean even mating surfaces are critical here aswell as measuring the run-out when mounted (which for some dark reason some workshops seem to "forget" that part). If you bed them in properly, they can take some abuse.

I'd come over and do them for you but the Channel seems a bit too long a swim.

Somebody Help?! :help:

AFAIK toyota original brake discs are Denso and they are crap.

If your interested in braking I would recommend black diamond, some other board members also recommend 3G. They don't fade and also loook the muts nuts

it sounds like your brake disc has warped, Just remember to get decent pads too. Unfortunately you can't get DS2000 for the starlet so I'd go EBC greenstuff

have a nice day

I have got Greenstuff though  how long are they suppose to last by the way?

Those disc looks very nice, how much are they and where to get them? :help:

Well here goes in terms of car and pads

VW Golf GTI 150hp twin pot front - I still have about 6mm of pad left and discs in okay condition after 26k

Mum's VW Polo, Front discs and pads changed at 25k (after scumbag dealer said pads were worn down to the metal - lying little *******)

My Old Honda Civic Front discs and pads changed at 45k - and then again at 60k when i bought crap pads, bought some decent pads/discs and went through to 105k when i sold it.

Starlet, the discs had a nice lip of rust on them on the inside when we got it. I took them off and took the piston out of the caliper and cleaned all the crap off it, reinstalled it and made sure it wasn't binding - common fault on toyota calipers (have a look on matt's firday night pictures, the outer edge of the inside of his discs is nackered).

I doubt the guys you took your car too would have taken the piston out cos its a time consuming job (although not difficult)and is probably the reason why your disc got warped again.

I'd say on a starlet the discs should be lasting 50k if you are pottering around. If you are racing or drive fast 35-40k. Pads is a bit of a quandry as the softer pads clearly wear quicker. we got ours from motorsportworld in scotland they were the cheapest £130 for the discs and £40 for the pads. Fensport wanted more than that.

hope this helps

have a nice day

WARNING - IF you order discs for a starlet all UK EP91 models are 238mm discs. My EBC catalogue quotes them as 229 which is wrong

Thanx for the information babes, find it useful

Well shall be off to do some research then :bookworm:

only 2 disc sizes to choose from early models are 229 x 16 mm

later models are 238 x 18 mm

please put new pads in , you're old ones are now mis- shaped and not flat.

I've discused this before and have been told many times that black diamond are prone to cracking with the faster starlets. 3g use Brembo components and are meant to be the best for the job. Look them up in google and you can chose which ones you want. You have to tell them the centre bore diameter which i believe is 35mm on the SR and 34mm on the GT or GLANZA. Hope this helps toby

Thanx toby for the info, i will be looking into all the disc and see which one i decide to buy, also need to get new brake pads :crybaby:

But keep coming in with advices guys if u got some

Cheers

Shelly,

As Toby says, I would go for the 3G discs. They are good quality discs made discs from Brembo castings with quality machining of grooves etc.

And if I was going for a disc/pad combination, I would go for the 3G discs and Pagid pads. I don't rate the EBC Greenstuff pads <_< I've had some myself <_<

As many people have mentioned, you really need to get this sorted and sorted right. Your brakes are an important part of your car which you depend upon greatly, and you want them to work to the best of their ability. And you defenitely don't want them not to work

Sorry for the lecture :D

Take care

Nath

Don't see why not, sounds like a decent price!

go for them gorgeous, i'm sure they cant be that bad if they are made from the same company as Brembo.

hehe brakes are important....
