picture this if you will, just dropped my lass off home, cars running at right temp and i stop at red light, an astra pulls alongside, spotty teen driving it with a cap pointing out his sun roof with techno music blasting, i laugh and think what the hell, i sit and rev a bit, he looks straight at me then looks away quickly, lights turn green and im away, get about 2 car lengths ahead then i hear this massive WWWAAAAHHHHHH and hes in front of me, then comes the WATOOOSH of the dump valve followed by more noisy exhaust and hes away, im gutted and decide to slow down, about a mile down the road i pass a petrol station where the spotty kid is standing grinning, decided to go back to talk to him and turns out to be a decent fella, car didnt look owt special but ***** it took off!

he was telling me about an escort van that used to kick around jarrow that had a cossie engine kicking over 300 bhp, yet still had steel wheels and black bumpers!

I wouldn't mind havin a sunny gti-r with a front mounted intercooler.

Remove the vented bonnet and put on a standard one, some nice tacky 1.4 NISSAN SUNNY CHIC stickers up the side and then drive around just waitin for a laugh.

Should have got a turbo

knew you were gonna say that

did he say what he was running under the bonnet?

He told me was its a 2.0 turbo, asked him out of what and he said cavalier, i said does that make it 4 wheel drive and he just grinned, must have been a hell of a job! the car itself looked standard apart from alloys, lowered and exhaust. nice and white!

just cos the engines out of a 4wd cav doesn't mean his astra is 4wd, i very much doubt he'd spend all the money to make it 4wd.

cavalier turbo lumps go in fwd corsas etc and they're still fwd

The 4x4 lump has been slapped in many a Nova ..

And okay the 2.0 is only about 200bhp (not that good when compared to Jap rivals) .. in a tin box Nova? They are fairly rapid ..

They must get a heap of torque steer and be running much wider tyres to get the power down I would assume.

Reckon that's one of the MR2s best points in that it can wack a load of its power down making it really useable

My dad's honda prelude vtec can just about keep away from these astra turbo's believe me they are VERY quick but a mr2 turbo will ***** all over it , because you had a standard mr2 he would eat you for breakfast.

Shame i wasnt there... ;)

hehe.. cool story. Has anyone every tried racing something they knew they'd never beat?

once in my 1992 1.4 Fiesta (hehe) I pulled up next to a Porsche 911 (a fairly old one) and started revving a bit. he revved some and when the lights when green we both put our foot down.

needless to say he flew off, and i was sat there laughing. i'm pretty sure he would have been chuckling too.

A R34, and a 3000GT with twin hybrids ..

and I've also been toasted by a GT3 comming up behind me on the M'way that I thought was a Boxster ..

Hmmm, the street sleeper strikes.

Looks standard, with all the original badges still on...

Now look in the engine bay, note 'AA' Badge

Although no big fan of Cosworths, I like the one above.

That's cool as mate! Fancy getting beat by that, if you didn't know anything about that 'scort, you'd be gutted (especially if you'd just spent a decent wad on tuning). LOL.

Got beat by my mates R33 the other night. I used to beat him, but he's just had a sheite load of work done to it. He had a grin like a cheshire cat on his boat race when he beat me. I'll be back!

Had a bit of a dice with a 3000GTO the other night. It was a standard one Bibbs, not one with hybrids or anything like that, but I managed to get a good two carlengths on him before he decided to turn off. Hehehe.

This guy, I found out after, is running twice the bhp that I am ..

I'm not fussed, I know there will ALWAYS be faster cars ..

i've been beaten by loads of cars when mine wasnt running right..... but hey, ***** happens. the worst ones were when i got mine back from nobles and they'd f*****d up the unichip install. the car was popping and spluttering anything over 3k revs and i could just about hold up to a vectra to 60mph, after that i gave up and let him scream off

yeh there are some wolf in sheeps clothing out there, but i dnt see the point of tuning a car like that when it looks standard, may as well fork out for car that looks as gd as it goes. ive had a few gd races, highlights include plastering a saab convertible and an slk 230! but only just , needed all 7000 revs there <_< but there were occassions when i was almost embarassed , like one time a bluebird turbo was neck and neck with me from the lights i was like  but the mr2 pulled through in 3rd but only just hehe

wow.. you must be really cool then <_<

not everyone knows how to put a pedal all the way to the floor <_<

very true ..

anyway .. it's not why I bought an MR2 .. I wanted a car that looked the business, was fun to drive and something that none of my mates would drive.

And now after 3.5 years of MR2 ownership and my 2nd MR2 .. it's slowly becoming the car I want ..

Only after spending the value again on the car though ..
