Hi all (love the forum btw)

Well, just bought my dream hot hatch :D

Toyota Corola gti 16v twincam on a 1991 plate, metailc black. Ive also bought another of the the same car for spares.

Im swapping engines, as 1 has a cracked head

After the engine swap, i am going to put a stainless steel straight through exhaust, and connect that to my toyota TRD backbox off a brnad new corolla ;)

Then the plan is to fit a power boost valve, air inductin kit, uprate the brakes, and NOS.

:help:

Am i missing any simple mods i can do for the beast, bearing in mind im not a richman, but have rich tatse lol, dont we all.

Anyhoo, ill check back, and report how the car project is going...car spec for basic gti says 8.30 0-60 mph, and 15 secs for 1/4 mile, hoping to blast those times when complete.

Any tips or advice will be greatly recieved.

cheers.b B)

I'm no expert but maybe different cams and a chip? Also how about uprating wheels and suspension so you can get the increased power down better?

A FEW MODS THAT YOU CAN DO MAYBE PUT IN A BANANA BRANCH AND FREE FLOW EXHAUST WHICH ALSO ADDS ON A FEW MORE KILOWATTS,CHIP, CONE FILTER THESE ARE THE CHEAPER OPTIONS.

IF YOU WANT MORE YOU CAN GAS FLOW THE HEAD AND ADD ON THE TURBO WITH NOS.

After looking at lots of sites on car tuning, i reckon i have a long way to go, and an expensive one.

But im gonna do this propper, i dont wanna blow my engine every 5 mins.

Ive just found a ceramic coated 4 to 1 pipe manifold, to help keep the engine gases cool on exit: costs £200.00 though...maybe sum1 will buy it for my 30th this month hint hint :hokus-pokus:

Heres sum usefull parts sites ive come across, while doing my research...

http://www.msport.co.uk/index.shtml - All you need for mods

http://www.extremeautoaccessories.co.uk/home_page.php - All you need for mods

http://www.brake-eng.com/ - cheap grooved disks

Ill add more as i dioscover em

  • 3 months later...

:ffs: Nuff bucks spent, and none the wiser... :crybaby:

Basically, after replacing my cracked head with a recon head, and new gasket kit etc, we did the timing, and it started up lovely.

we then did a lovely oil flush and oil change, only to discover a top engine knocking sound :help:

The car had 20/50 oil in it before the head and oil change, and we then changed it to 10/30 oil, and there was the sound.

The knocking starts as soon as ignition starts the engine, and will increase with revs...but i have also noticed that it quitens to almost no knocking at low revs between approx 1500 and 2200 rpm.

My head hurts, as its cost alot to get this far, and no1 knows whats wrong,,,,ive been told it cud be valves, tappets or the lifters, the cam shaft(s) carbon build up (tho its way to loud for that i thk) etc.

BUT

No1 can say what is it for sure...pls...any ideas?

OR

deos any1 know of a toyota engine specialist in the S/West of England?

thanks for any help peeps :)
