my dog got run over yesterday by some :censor: goin to fast by my house . Mollys not in good way with a broken pelvis and possible bladder probs. She will need an operation for about 3k and after she has to be kept in a cage for 8 weeks with no excersise at all, molly is only about 16months old so it cant be good for her to be caged up as she is an active happy dog whos used to beibn out running around the fields on our farm. . we are going to do everything we can for her after all shes part of the family but surely the :censor: who hit her should be made to pay out of his insurance. last i herad if u hit a dog u need to report it to the police is that still true.

cheers

Last I heard you still have to stop. So lets hope they catch the driver and throw the book at them.

I'm not sure if it technically comes under hit & run, so they could be facing a hefty punishment if they're caught.

BTW I hope Molly recovers :(

Sorry to hear that happen to ur dog, hope it recovers really quick.

Erm........ i ran over a cat before  will people hunt me down??

But honestly this cat just ran out of the road infront of my wheel and it went under my front and back wheel........ouch!!! I know!!! i was totally shocked when i looked in my rear view mirror it was rolling around in pain... :( I didn't have enough time to brake in time and i felt every bit of the body of the cat go under, bit like going over small ramps

But luckily i knew the owner and ran to their house and told him that his cat has had an accident, but they had to find the cat because it ran off somewhere. But it's fit and running now  hope it doesnt do it again.....

Really hope Molly gets better soon.

Im 100% sure U have to report running over a dog. Its unavoidable sometimes as creatures do run in the road, but the :censor: wits that drive off and leave the poor thing in pain etc deserve to be shot IMHO.

The driver should report it to the police, and obviously you should too.

Any witnesses?

It's the law to report to the polcie when you hit: Dogs, Fox's, Deers, Cows, Sheep etc. Well, anything apart from cats and rats....

Johns right, the driver HAS been involved in a Non stop Injury road traffic accident; as such he/should have stopped and at least made enquiries into trying to find out who the dog belongs to - also they should have reported this to the police - no doubt that hasnt happened...

You have to report all injury road traffic collisions and a road traffic collision involves PROPERTY, ANIMALS, HUMANS. For the ANIMALS bit tho; they are defined as;

1) Pig

2) Cow

3) Goat

4) (Im trying to put in A.S.S but it wont let me...)

5) Sheep

6) Horse

7) Mule

8) Dog

PROPERTY is obvioulsy anything that belongs to somebody or some authority, and i think we know what HUMANS are!

I have lost many cats on the main road outside my parent's house.. both our own pets and neighbours ones.... its always very sad...(no matter how evil they are they are still part of someone's family)

As for the whole reporting to police thing....I think it was originally a rule that if 'working animals' were hit you had to report it, because it could affect someone's livelihood or something...

I thought it had to be reported to the police as well but aint sure

as for the insurance well yeah I always thought insurers would pay out, but they might try and fight it and ask why was the dog running around and out on the road in the first place?

It sounds harsh but I had to advise someone of it at work a few months back (I take motor insurance claim reports)
