Two years ago i bought a benq lcd 17" with a response time of 20ms , when i recieved the item i was very happy but over a period of time i was very angry that id wasted so much on it and wanted to go back to CRT.

Reading so many reports of people happy with there lcd i didnt understand why , the problem is with the lcd was the brightness and the mouse lag in all fps games.

If i turned the brightness up just slightly it was too bright it made my eyes water and iwas feeling sick , if i turned the brightness down it was just too dark some of the colours didnt look right either deep oranges on crt came out as light orange some greys looked blue.

Furthermore in fsp games instead of being fast mouse movement it was much slower sometimes the movement of the mouse was the speed of someone walking this did not happen with my crt monitor.

Moving on , next year ill be looking for an lcd monitor 17" less than £400 if its less than £300 it'd be a bonus i also want less than 20ms reponse time and correct brightness without killing my eyes.

yes i play games too :group-cuddles:

Hyundai ImageQuest Q995 19'' Perfectly Flat CRT Monitor - Black/Silver (MO-004-HY)

A flat monitor with Anti-Glare/Anti-Static/Anti-Reflection

only £150 i think ill look for that or similar flat screen , lcds just dont sit with me and because i had a bad experience with one £300+ is alot of money to take another chance.

I very nearly posted this the other day.. I too am looking at an LCD, as I spend hours and hours on my pc, and the flicker free aspect interests me.. as well as I have it straight on on my desk.. not at the neck crocking angle my current CRT is!!!

The thing that worrys me, (moreso then price) is quality, I have sony trinitron CRT.. its oldish now but when it came out it was the best picture quality you can get (they used it with the viao desktops).

I have so far been looking at:

http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Sharp_Sharp_...timedia_Monitor

it looks cool

http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Acer_AL1731_17_in_

I like the fact its all aluminium.. I like product to have a hefty solid feel..

But the best option so far looks like it might be this one!!! Sony stuff tends to be very good (unless its X-plod car audio)

http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Sony_SDM_S73H its availaible in silver or black... 500:1 contrast and -16 ms... all for £273.91 inc VAT from E buyer..

there isa cheap 19" realysis screen out there too on e buyer.. but I think I'd rather have quality over quantity!

This is what I have at work. It's a little pricey, but the 18inches make it comparable to the 19inch CRT it replaced.

It's a bit pricey though (cheapest I've found is ~£500), and it looks like the response is apalling according to the review above, but apart from that it's fine for office use, the portrait mode is a bonus when working on code or Word as you can see more lines on screen.

Oh and it's 1280x1024 native resolution. If you go for a cheapo monitor you'll most likely wind up with a native 1024x768 resolution, which on a 17" model is just too low IMO.

I just wish I had a spare £300 to replace my 17" CRT :( (it looks tiny after sitting in front of 18" and 19" screens all day).

i bought this 19" CRT CTX EX951F+

AGRAS coated screen that delivers undistorted, glare-free images that aren’t dulled by dust build-ups

The problem with lcd monitors is this

<BLOODUK> i cant stand lcd too damn bright

<BLOODUK> and there just too much

<l33tSmurf> no more pain in my eyes since i've got it

<BLOODUK> i had pain in my eyes when i got my benq monitor

<BLOODUK> and that was through brightness

<BLOODUK> turn down brightness

<BLOODUK> too dark

<BLOODUK> turn up

<BLOODUK> too bright

<BLOODUK> worst 300 i ever spent i cant risk doing it again

<iNFERNiS> hehe, that's something you get used too

<BLOODUK> see and i cant

<BLOODUK> i have weak eyes too bright and they stream

<BLOODUK> i have to have sunglasses out side :(

I have a Philips 190B (19” TFT) cost £400.

A bit cheaper now if you shop around, along with a G-Force FX 5700 Ultra Graphics Card I can’t fault it.

Do the extra inches make that much of a difference? ( )
