What Should I Be Paying......

Just collected my car from MrT, just in for a normal service but I asked them to look at the brakes as I suspected I needed pads and perhaps a caliper.....

Turns out I need:

2 rear discs

2 rear pads

2 front pads

1 front caliper (siezed)

This isnt too upsetting utill I saw the quote to fix it all:

£856.00 incl Vat and fitting

What do you folks reckon this lot should cost? Also, what does your local garage charge for labour as Mr T wants £65 per hour (+ VAT I assume )..... time to find a nice independant garage in Cardiff!

Not sure about other revisions but the Rev3's rear discs are 280mm and the fronts are 275mm (which is why rear discs on MR2 are more expensive then the fronts). Unusual to have the rears bigger than the fronts, probably to do with engine in the middle... but anyhoo...

2 rear discs can be bought from Fensport for £140 if you want to keep it standard.

If you go to 12 groove and cross drilled you can get 2 rears for £230. (Prices without Gold membershup discount).

Rear pads... Pagid or similar (EBC etc) will go for around £90 for front and rears.

Recon caliper from Fensport will cost you about £100, but you will receive £65 back if you give them yours within 3 weeks.

Tot that up and the parts will come to about £330... and then you'll get £65 back from the front caliper.

If you go for the better discs you'll be looking at £420... and then you'll get £65 back from the front caliper.

Labour should probably cost you a few hours as the brake fluid will also need draining and replacing... brakes bleeding etc. etc. If you allowed £100 for labour, unless you do it yourself.

Still... all in all it should cost you around £400-£450.

If you go Gold for £25, you'll get 10% discount from them... and it's not too hard to work out that the membership will have paid for itself with just this purchase alone!

My cheque is in the post for Gold membership baby!!!

Hope this helps.

Bibbs... where are you getting prices for Red.Dot discs?! Sounds interesting.

By the way... one set of spacers had to be binned... he's still working on them.
