New Avensis Heating System

Ok quick question for you good folk out there,

When using my Heater Controls if I select AUTO it always changes the direction of the air flow to the face vents, even if I was trying to demist the screen before touching the Auto button.

When in auto if I change the air flow direction it drops out of auto into manual again.

I have THIS PICTURE from the Toyota web site showing the heater controls in Auto with the direction down, this I cant do, only face vents level.

Is this normal ?

Has to do with the Sun light. There is a light sensor on the dash board that senses the ambient light condition. If intense sun light hits the sensor, it activates the air vents on the dash. If it is dark enough it directs the air down as in the picture.

I tried this last night when it was dark and the auto feature only directed the air down.

tried this again this morning and played around a bit more:

Auto on

Air temp to high = auto air down

air temp mid range = auto air down and face vents

air temp cold = auto air to face vents

this was the same with air con on and off

it seems to be the air temp will control the air direction, probably directly tied to cabin temp.
