New Avensis Rattles

My 53 registered Avensis T2 has some annoying rattles. At low speed over slightly bumpy terrain, the dash has a plasticky rattle. There is buzzy noise from the passenger sun visor area and there is always some noise from the door seals. I think that the Avensis adds with their emphasis on 'quality' are a bit misleading.

The quality of British built Toyota's falls far short of those made in Japan, within a few days of me getting my old shape Avensis I was appaled by the quality of it compared to other Jap built Toyota's we have and have had.

It took my dealer 18 months to identify and repair my dash rattle. It was caused by the gear stick vibrating and "passing on" the vibration to anything it was in contact with. They found the fix on the Toyota Faults database, something to do with the cables to the gearbox. Once they applied this fix last week, the rattle on the dash stopped.

I have a 53, T4 and had a rattle around the dash board area. It turned out to be the steering column, which is a known fault. After having the second replacement steering column the rattle has now disappeared.

One thing I will say in Toyota's favour is that there is no argument about changing under warranty if you have a problem.
