Dear All,

I have had my Rav 4 for almost 6 months ( 02 GX model).

Does anyone know if it is common for the engine to idle at high revs (2000 rpm) on a cold start up and sit there for upto 10 minutes?

Pressing the accelerator does not bring the revs down, and main dealer says there is no fault and this is common with the RAV 4. :(

Quite a few Toyota's rev at up to 2000 rpm when cold :) , silly question but why do you leave it standing for 10 minutes when cold

Bob,

Thanx for the reply.

I tend to "phaff about" when I bring the car out of the garage, hence the longer cold start stand.

All the other cars I have owned would reduce their idling speed almost immediately from start up but with this being my first RAV4 I found the high revs quite unusual.

You have put my mind at ease.
