hello all, ive been advised (seeing as ive been running me motor using the incorrect fuel DOH!) to reset my ecu after using optimax for a few days so that a get full use of its higher RON rating, or whatever that means.

How on earth do i do this?

Cheers

Pull the EF & EFI fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay .. tap the brake pedal .. put the fuses in ..

You'll notice the car will idle lower and feel like it's stalling .. don't worry, it's learning .. give it a 15 min blat and it'll be cool ..

Dont wanna sound daft here, BUT is the car on or off when doing this? :help:

take the earth lead off or those fuses out for 5 minutes with it OFF !!:thumbsup:

Cheers boys, id be lost without yas!!!! :D

Pulling the Battery cable will re-set your clocks/radio etc .. no need.

And 5mins .. pah, it's why you tap the brake pedal ..

and when you pull the EFI fuse the engine would die .. so that's with the engine off ..

so all i basically need to do is disconnect me Battery for 5 mins? sounds much easier

cheers

The fuse is in the bow in the e/bay, faster then taking your spare out..

pulling a fuse out is just as easy mate. They are labelled on the outside of the box so you know what's what. Open it... pull the fuse.... da dah !

Start car , let idle till warm

Turn off car

Open Bonnet

Open Boot

Look at the black box's in both Bonnet and boot

Remove EFI , EF For 5mins

Replace both fuses again

Shut bonnet/boot

Restart car drive around slowly for abit let it get used to the reset

just remove the fuses and tap the brake pedal a few times.. then put them back in. Don't need to wait for 5mins etc.

Who told you this???????

The theory is there, but remember that optimax degrades faster then anything else... by the end of the week if its been sitting, its octane level will have fallen, and thats assuming it was a "fresh" delivery!!!

i had it out for 5mins just cause i feel like its good and cleared :P

thats why i said it varies across the country! i.e. transport times/storage temperatures etc.

For me there is no doubt whatsoever that optimax does good for my car, it really is a noticiable difference in high boost consistancy and better mileage and overall rev-happy smoothness. I wouldnt pay more for optimax if it didnt do any of that! Of course not everyone will get the same results due to the reason above and also due to the condition and the way the car has been treated previously. A factor for my car couldve been thats its only been fed optimax since 2000 when it was imported by the previous owner, and i hardly ever put more than £20 worth (half a tankish which lasts a week) of any petrol in unless im on a long trip. Generally i've seen most people rate optimax for mr2 turbos but only a few who havn't

i only said 5 mins , cos i dont know how long exactly it takes to work , jesus , sorry for not being soooo accurate , must be awful being so clever.

If I remember correctly one of the fuses is in the front fuse box, did you look in there?

Posted

you will know if its worked if it rids you of the problems you had in the first place.

yeah i checked the front and rear fuse boxes, and the one inside the car. Couldnt see an EF fuse?
