i need to take off the headlining, to get access to the back of thr roof around the sunroof, but cant work out how to remove it. there are covers on the driver's side where there would be a handle if it was lhd, but i cant seem to prise them off. and when i took off the passenger side handle, it didnt make much difference. i presume it clips on at the edges in some way, so where are the clips?

Alrite matey! To remove the headlining you have to remove everything touching it literatly!

All A/B/C pillar trims, sunroof trim that around the hole in the roof!(if you get my meaning!)

All f**k me handles AKA grab handles!

Interior light unit, Sunroof control unit.

And any other little trims e.g. door apature surround!

Hope this helps! But why do you want to remove the headlinging?

great!

the headlining on mine doesn't touch a lot of those trims though, it has a sort of beaded lip that ends before them. (ill try and take some pics).

i need to take it off, because it's sprung a leak. everytime there's been heavy rain, that's sat on the roof for a while, the first time u drive the car, and brake, water driibles in, near the door from behind the headlining. i presume its the seal round the sunroof, but it could be the rain channel from it as well, so i need to see.

Well the most simple way to check that is to remove the sunroof panel! Easy as pie!

Slide the sunroof back about halfway and remove the fabric trim attached to it! Just pull on the front edge of the trim and it has about 4-5 metal clips holding it on!

Once unclipped, the fabric will slide back and then give you access to the 10 10mm headed bolts which allows you to remove the sunroof panel!

You know you should really buy a manual for your '82 so you dont have to ask all these questions! lol!

Heres the Toyota publish no. for the '82 if you wanna buy one! Got loads of info! : 36216E! ;)

ive got a haynes manual for it, but its not that good. its just an updated version of the one they made for the saloon and the liftback - they stuck any major revisions on the GT at the back. that manual sounds a good idea!

ive took the trim off the sunroof panel, and took it out before, but it still doesn't give access to where i need to see.

Yeah i got that manual aswell! Aint much good for small details like the problem your having!

I was looking at my headlining and mine has also got the edgeing trim around it, but to remove that you have to remove all the trims as i explained before! Its a simple job really! all your gonna need is a phillips screwdriver!
