you are correct, infact, the spoiler full stop will add extra drag..

now this may only mean a few tenths off the 0-60, but will impact the top end speed, and also increase fuel consumption (not that Ben really cares about that).. oh, and lets not forget increase tyre wear

However, oh the plus side, it will reduce understeer in high speed corners, and make the front end turn in sharper (not at low speed however).

My only concern from a Physics point of view, is if the front end increases in grip, this could upset the balance of the car, and cause oversteer, which is a worry in a MR2 at the best of times...

So going by the board ...

We hate it batman , but aslong as you like it its all that matters :D

Speak for yourself.

As for the other points, increased tyre wear, oversteer and petrol consumption... hardly.

if you want to get rid of it Ben, let me know....

Hey Bibbs, where'd you get that bonnet ' rammer ' from? Looks rather dangerous should you hit someone. Is it legal to have on your car there? Is it home made or did you buy it?

Posted

It's unique thats for sure. :)

dont thing the SVA would be too happy about it though.

home made?.. this isnt Blue Peter!

Imagine being a kid and being slammed into by Bibbs car, heading up the bonnet then getting serious injuries by a novelty item.

yeah, and think of all those 4x4's with bull bars, which are proven to increase the chance of a fatality 200%... and then think of all those school run mums driving them around schools...

no, because it is now illegal (and has been for 5 years or so) for Manufacturers to sell cars with these fitted...

However, it is not illegal for 'aftermarket' companies to sell them for retro-fitting..

Posted

Ok, so, you can buy themfor retro fitting, BUT, can you drive around with them actually attached to your car, on a public highway?? LEGALLY? Can you be insured to have it on your car?? WOuld the insurance companies even insure?? Cos the wheel spinners in the US, apparently, in a Revs mag, from a few months ago, said that, becos the spinners protrude out from the body line of the car, then that would make them dangerous to the public, so making them UNINSURABLE!!

It illegal in the same way pop up headlights are ..

Illegal on NEW cars, but retrofitting and on old cars is fine.

Look at old Jag with the cat on the bonnet .. same type of thing ..
