Found this company on eBay selling these induction kits for £20, so thought why not. They have a 3'' end, so I got a guy to make up a straight bit of stainless steel piping for £20 and got a samco reducer for £23 and this is the result.

All for £63 which I think is not too bad. Car sounds so much more aggresive now. Must be faster is well. Will find out in november as I'll be taking it to a RR day

the problem with an induction kit is your gonna suck hot air in the stock location. Fundamental equation of induction is as follows:

P/D=RxT

P = Air Pressure

D= Air Density

R= Gas Constant (happens to be 287)

T = Air Temperature

Most petrol engines work on the Otto cycle so the more you maximise your inlet pressure the more power you get. Rearrange that equation (think back to gcse maths, multiply both sides by D)

P=RxTxD

So basicaly to get maximum power and therefore noise, you want cold dense air (Maximum T and Maximum D). The current intake sucks from the front of the engine, if you put an induction kit in then you will get less "skin friction" because of reduced pipework and more efficient filter but the air will be hotter and denser.

So to cut a long story short i would go for the panel filter over an induction kit.

and your welcome for the guide.

Apologies if i sounded patronising it wasn't meant to i just wanted to put a few things straight

If your gonna take the time to fit an induction kit, why not get cold air ducts to feed the new filter in it's new position.

not as knowledgeable as nrgizer but that might help (not solve) the hot/cold air problem.

Ive custom made myself a panel filter using an HKS panel filter from an Evo 8. When i drove the car around with the standard airbox i cudnt hear any induction noise. I put in my drilled/ventilated air box and it made a difference instantly! I now hav a nice induction roar, its not as loud as a proper induction kit but its noticable.

Now then mr 'Bunny', by ventilating the air box am i making it suck in warm air? (the original intake pipe is still in use)

Thanx 4 any help :thumbsup:

i've ran two induction kits in the past year, and although the noise was great it killed my performance. i'd say go for a panel filter :thumbsup: . the cars also a lot easier to drive without the induction kit.

rich.

+u can get them from almost any car accessory shop, motorists centre, a1 motor stores, Halfords... etc.

and do the pannel filters still have the nice roar im after?

And bunny i think you should make that guide a sticky cos it really helped me get my door pannel of,id recomend takin the doors of as theres no adjuster pannel so the go straigh tback on,dint have much chance to finish my business of as my m8s car got broke into :S

captain, How do i make it a sticky? MOd please help.

Humayun

yes you are making it suck warm air, the air near the airbox will inevitably be hot(ter) than atmospheric because the engine will warm the air up. The noise you get is from the small holes inducing tubulence into the air. Your solution is probably the best combination if you want noise and power, that is just my opinion.

pros and cons, taking the panel filter and induction Cone in turn

Panel Filter

Not as much noise, dense cool air entering the intake, Big problem is skin friction due to the pipework (reduces total pressure) from the front of the engine

Induction Cone

More Noise, Less pipework (therefore less pressure drop) but you suck air in from a warm place.

The optimum design would be to have the induction cone sucking in air from a cool place, and have minimal pipework.

have a nice day
