I have a 2003 Matrix. It has the 1.8L 1zz-fe engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. It is a great car and I can't complain about anything.

In the past 4 months i have come across 2 articles in Car and Driver that mention the durability of the 2 zz-fe engine (the high performance model). As i gather alot of people are running into problem with the engines giving out. Has anybody encountered any major problems with the 1zz-fe engine?

The reason i want to know is because i like to rev the engine up and drive fast. I have not come accross any problems but i would appreciate anybody letting me know exactly how durable these engines are.
