Well, lucky old me. Some dumb@rse decided to drive up my backend in a traffic jam a few mins ago on the way to work. To make matters worse she was driving a Mazda MX !Removed! 5! :ffs:

Luckily there's not too much damage, apart from a scratch/chunk out of the rear bumper, they've also managed to make the rear O/S wheel arch crack away from itself (rusty etc), and it looks like s 1"-2" piece will fall off now.

Should I claim for that on her insurance????

Opinions welcome.

The cheeky mare reckoned that the chunk that had come out of rear bumper was already like that. Yeh right (NOT)!!

This is the 4th time in 4 years that my car has been hit. Each time it get's written off as an uneconomical repair and I get a payout of roughly £700-£1000. No doubt it'll be written off again!

I'll have to see my mate who does body work etc 2moro about it, and see how much it'll cost to get repaired. The woman sounded like she didn't want to go through the insurance. We'll have to see!! Will post a couple of pics tonight if I have time!!

her fault, her insurance, unless she wants to pay,

I'm sure if it was the other way round she'd not hesitate.

Sorry to hear whats happened, its a shame what the idot who ran into you did and her fault, plus that's two cars damaged that I like (Corolla GTi and MX5). The statement you mention about the insurrance company writing the car off each time is a common one, it's due to the extortionate rates body shops charge (and in some cases I use the word body shop in the broadest sense due to the rubbish jobs that are done round were I live, and even they are not cheap!) and so-called depriciation /book price of second hand cars. However all this writing off they do on stuff that is easily repairable is putting everyone's insurrance up (plus idiots like her who run into the back of people).

Hope your car is repaired okay, especially as you have a 1987 example (that was the first year of the Corolla GTi); so is now worth saving.

It's an October '87 one mate. The very first month they did em too I think!!

This might be my cue to get new rear arches instead of filler like in 2000.

Anyone know where you can get em from??

If she drove her car into yours its her fault (unless you rolled back into her, which i doubt you did). Let the insurances companies deal with it as that is why you buy it. It will not cost you if it is clearly her fault which it appears. If the worst happens and the insurance right it off you will get book price. If this happens buy the car back from the insurance company for scrap value you will then have the cash paid out to get the car repaired privately. I know its all hassle to sort out but unfortunatly things like this happen. Good Luck

Nick

One example could be to try these people for rear arches:

http://www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk/default.asp?go=8

They do pattern part wings, bonnets, and rear archs for AE92 3dr Hatchback. Plus lighting.

Due to fact rear archs will have to be blended in buying pattern parts will be fine (especially at around £17.).

However I would exercise caution when buying pattern part front wings (realise it's not a problem for you, but thought it might be beneficial to other 'GTi readers') apparantly the front wheel arch lip is slightly different for GTi than standard Corolla. Its hardley noticable and all depends how concerned someone might be.

Cheers for that web address Twincam. I've got a mate who can fit and spray em real cheap over Christmas which is the only time in the near future that I have off work!!

Her's a pic of the main damage to the wheel arch!

The bumper is no longer attached to the wing on this bit!
