Number Plates

i saw a number plate today on the back a car in a car park the surface of the number plate had a weird lookin effect to it. the surface of the plate looked like oil in a puddle like a rainbow when the when the light hit it at a certain angle just wondered if any hand any idea what this style of number plate is called, how much they cost and what the purpose of this effect is

There the new plates alot of places put on cars now

If you'd had a closer look you would have also noticed it was a film on a plastic backplate,

rather than it having a clear plastic face like normal ones.

The rainbow effect goes away after a while
