Stereo Removal - Clip Location

I am trying to remove my head unit from my 97 corolla, and I am not entirely sure how to remove the center dash unit. I think that my main problem is that I cannot locate the little clips that secure the unit to the car, so I don't know where exactly to poke a screwdriver. I have a general idea of where they might be, but I'm not sure. If anyone has any insight as to where the clips are located so that I can pry the unit off, or any other suggestions that will help me in my quest to change my head unit, I'd REALLY appreciate it. thanks a lot!

on my 97, all i had to do was remove the knobs from the heater controls, and just firmly pull on the console to remove it - I could get just enough grip on the lip between the temperature slider and air flow direction selector to pull it out. The clips do not need to be depressed with a screwdriver as they do not lock into place. As you slide out the console, you can disconnect the two wiring clips from the back - they are keyed, so they can only go back in the hole they came from, but make sure you don't lose them down in the void. Also, be careful if you have aircon, as the switch for this is actually a plug in module and may fall out when the console is removed. It will simply slot back in, but I say this just in case you take the console away from the car and it falls out without you knowing. You dont want to lose it.

As stated in the haynes manual, be careful with regards to your airbag - it could go off if you mess about with the bright yellow wiring harness for the airbag system behind the dash. They recommend that you disconnect your Battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes before removing the console. I didn't though ;)

Hope this helps.
