Track Car How-to

Hey there,

Me and my mate (19 and 21 respectivly) would like to buy a collegues old banger (Sierra) for £50 with MOT and Tax. Its had a new cambelt and oil filter too and still runs rather nicely.

Anyway the plan is to strip it out, and get it running as fast as possible as stock, etc... just something fun to do and tinker with.

But, insurance is stupid money for such a cheap car, £500-£600 TP. Do you guys know or have any insight on basically storing a car near a track, airstrip, etc... and racing it around every so often, while also doing some work on it. We want to avoid insurance if at all possible unless we can get it very cheap.

None of us have a tow bar either, and no plan to fit one on a Yaris or Celica!

Anyone got any ideas?

I also have a track day car, it's not a cheap affair but great fun.

If you dont drive the car on the street, technically you dont need insurance ;).

however it will need an MOT or no circuit is going to let you on.

Garages are expensive to rent out, you best leaving it on the driveway.

I'd buy an old banger diesel to tow it around.

Buying a banger, and then another banger to tow it kind of defies the point does it not? Then we'd have to insure one of the cars anyway.... Hmmm.

As i said it's not cheap, unless you want to use your every day car to tow it.

no you can buy removable, but the electric point still remains

Does anyone know of any insurer's who do short term policies (e.g. 3 months)?

plus if you tow it...you need cat b + e on your licence, (thats a trailer) even if your car has broken down and someone tows it they need b+e!

quick tip................

don't go mental when stripping it out

me and a mate spent 4 hours stripping out a sierra :)

them blew it up within 10 minutes :(

was fun though

lol, my track car is totally gutted..

it rattle's like mad, but you can really through it in the corners, it grips and handles like a go-kart
