Tvis

Think it was Toyota Variable Induction System, where there were flaps in the inlet manifold that opened & shut depending on engine load/speed thus improving performance/fuel efficiency etc.

It gives you an extra power boost at a certain point on the rev band...

Mine comes in at 5k.

Has the same effect as honda's Vtec but works differently

Its a noticable difference when it comes in so i would be surprised if it did give a bhp increase when removed... but i dont know about 20bhp

Would be nice though

tvis isnt like vvti, it gives you more torque lower down the rev band, what u feel at 5k is the tvis turning off, taking it off wouldnt give u more power but make the speed pick up slower (less torque)

Houston is right. The rev 1 and 2 have 8 inlets instead of 4. TVIS closes 4 of these below 4300rpm. This makes the air move faster into the cylinder and increases efficiency at low revs giving more torque. Torque is what gets the car off the line and TVIS is the reason why rev 1 and 2 NAs are a half second quicker to 60mph than rev 3 on. Rev3 on have ACIS, which does the same kind of thing, but not quite so well.

Rev 3 on turbos are of course faster and more tunable than the rev 1 and 2s. ;)
