Cheers mate, much appreciated, still in shock as I traded in a Mazda RX-8 for the Rav & have gone from screaming round on 2 wheels to cruising in my "4" now.

Welcome to TOC from a fellow ex-RX8 owner. There's at least another ex-RX8 owner on here, so you're in good company :)

Cheers Simon, still recovering from the experience of letting my 8 go, still really love the car & feel like crying every time I see one go past lol

  • 2 years later...

I have just acquired a 'Granite' model. My only gripe is the poorly designed shelf that will not stay up on it's own and falls on your bonce if you are reaching under when it drops from the wedged up position! I use my boot as a locker for my golf gear so often need to ferret around.

A friend in Spain tells me he bought a new RAV4 a couple of months ago but that it had a roller blind style cover fitted. Toyota deny all knowledge of such an option and say it must have been arranged by the dealer. I haven't been able to get to the bottom of this yet but I WANT ONE!

Failing that has anyone got a solution - some ties to hold the shelf in place or suchlike? I can't understand why such a decent car has such a basic and unnecessary feature.

I have a 5 door Rav4 with the 'roller blind' type fitting, unable to buy another - discontinued. However if you buy a shower curtain rail with spring inside, cut to size to fit into the 'recesses' at each side, then buy some leatherette and sew to size and fit. A flat piece of metal (with four holes to match the two headrests) sewn inside the leatherette. Place the flat bar with holes into the headrests and then pull the 'bar' to the back and 'spring' into the recesses at the back then --- bingo you have your 'roller blind'.!!!!! :toast:

Hi Haligary,

Welcome to the club, and congrats on your Granite purchase - nice looking motor!!!

I agree with your comments - the parcel shelf is really badly designed, its as if they got to the end of making the car.....and said......oh, I can't be ubikd anymore - lets put this yaris parcel shelf in it (No offence Yaris owners!!!).

Rav owners are easily spotted, what with the bruised foreheads!!!!

A roller blind style would be much better - similar to the old CRV option. I think we have all come to terms with the fact thats how it is - as I do not know of anyone that has a solution.

Guys n' Gals - anybody know any different?????

Rich

I have a Rav4 with a 'rollerblind', it is leatherette with a metal bar and holes in it to match the headrest holes. At the other end there is sprung bar sewn into the leatherette which is compressed and then slots into the recesses that are at the back of the 'boot'. If you buy a shower curtain pole and cut to size and then get the leatherette, the metal bar, drill the holes, sew the leatherette to the size and fit - simps !!!!!!! would you like pix? I will attempt to upload some when I discover how it is done.
