Tagra Top

Hello

I have a 96 NA Supra Tagra top. But the driver side has a slight leak which is normally not a problem BUT it seems when it rains heavily it becomes over whelmed and gives in!!!!!!! And the result is the a wet driver seat :(

Anybody got any advice? A local shop advised me to put either vaseline on or old engine oil to boast the rubber seals.

Failing that does anybody have an idea what TOYOTA would charge to replace the seals? im expecting it to be high :( ouch.

Thanks for any advice. so far ive got a ice cover but tahts not ideal or long term.

Cheers

A set of replacement seals from toyota for an MR2 t-bar

is around the 100 quid mark

So i'd expect the supra to be very similar priced.

There's a lubricating spray you can buy from Halfords which will

"boast the rubber seals." but i'm not sure what its called.

Hi

Thanks for your reply, its very good to know the seal for an MR2 is only £100. I fully expect the total charge to be more like 200 quid but if it cured the problem id be happy to pay.

I guess its cheaper than a garage!!!!!!!

I used to have an MR2 and loved it totally, it was sad to sell but i needed a 4 seater! lol. That also leaked when it got to about 6/7 years of age.

Halfords told me not to bother with the silicone boaster, they said it was more for protection rather than cure.

Cheers

Really? A few of the MR2 guys have used it with good results...

Good luck getting it sorted anyway mate

do you find the water tends to run in more when you brake??? (I noticed this on my supra and mr2)

the side seals for a mk3 supra aerotop are about £250, the front top screen one is about 150+ as is the rear... I would imagine they will be similar for the mk4

Mine never leaked at all fora 16 year old car come rain hail and snow... untill the roof flew off as I didn't bolt it down properly!!!!

What is this Halfords stuff I hear about???

Is it the silicone window rubber lube???

I called Toyota and they quoted me:

Front 77.33

Side 50.54 each

Rear 58.31

Not including Tax

They had no idea about how long it would take to fix.

When im driving it i hardly notice it its just when it sits there over night and it rains heavily for a few hours. It seems to be the joint on the front and side seal.

Halfords seems not to be able to help but maybe i will try and different sales person. I was greatful last time as the guy seemed quite honest but id rather try something before i blow £200 +

Its being looked at today for a calliper problem (suspected) and they gave me a bright yellow MGF (900 miles on clock) which reminded me why i love my supra! haha. Still at least it wasnt the corsa everyone else was getting, maybe they thought i obviously had high standards having a supra and wanted to give me their best. lol.

Cheers
