Towing

Hi me again can anyone tell me what the 2.4 td surf auto is like for towing a caravan the van is a old van and approx: 20 feet long from lights to end of A frame but not sure of weight can anyone give any advice. Cheers Chas.

You will be ok towing 1800kg or even more, but might need to fit an additional transmission coooler, also change the fluid if it's not been done recently.

Hi,

If you need to find the weight of your caravan pop along to Touring and Tenting ; I'm sure if you post the make and model and approx. year (give or take 10) someone will be able to tell you the weight !

For caravans a good towing guide is for the van to weigh no more than 85% of the cars kerbweight.

The other thing to watch is the nose weight of the van (most are about 75kg) and make sure that your tow bar can take this much; on a landcruiser the toyota tow bar can take 130kg...
